I wish I had the hope you do when it comes to the world solving its problems. I don't. But we can still love ourselves, and teach those around us to do the same.
I like your last line: The hardest to love are the ones who need it the most."
This is going to make a really interesting read for your grands one day.

I like the thought that if we love each other, every other problem will solve itself. I never would have thought of that. Thank you for sharing, and keep up the good work! Best wishes to you as you continue this project.

Hello again Barbara.
When I was studying Christian Ethics for two of my degree Finals papers, one of the sections was called 'Situation Ethics'. The definitive book on the subject was by a man named Joseph Fletcher. He was very controversial amongst conservative thinkers, because he was characterized as teaching 'Love God and do what you like' - and indeed ,he was quoting no less a figure than Saint Augustine.
Well that sounded like the ancient heresy of antinomianism! viz. now we're saved, we can sin as much as we like!!
But Augustine and Joseph Fletcher were not so crass! Augustine argued that if you TRULY loved God (If Jesus really is Lord) then your future actions would be in His service alone - to sin would be anathema.
So, with reference to 1Cor.13, love is the essence of the Gospel -
"God is Love" - and that being the case, those who have that love are duty bound to share it in words and action - and so radical is the love at Calvary that it shatters the power of sin and death, freeing us to mend our world.
That we contain the image of God means we must love Him in us, and by extension, His image in all others, however broken and damaged it may be. Jesus died for the world which crucified Him, with words of forgiveness, and we His disciples are called, in His power, to love even those who hate us. We can only do that in the power of the Spirit - and with prayer, receiving strength in the fellowship of the Church.
So apart from preaching this sermon, Barbara, I also agree with everything you say to your wonderful granddaughters.

I wish I had a six for this. What a wonderful thing to hope for. Yes, love for each other would solve so many of the world's problems. I think your granddaughters will love this when they get it.

I guess the only thing we can do, is believe the one letter from God we can read, and really it's the only evidence in any form that He exists, beyond the certainty of rebirth through faith, otherwise things become too complicated, the answers lie in the bible, without it. We have nothing, man is simply not smart enough to transcend the divide, well done, blessings Roy

The issues you point out are all backed by scriptures. The problem is finding them takes time and much effort. When you present them as a unit, they are easier for the recipients to absorb. They can later search the scripture if that is their choice.
These are very important lessons/messages. It is very advantageous for your girls to read and gain an understanding of the thoughts and principals expressed.

Virtual 8 Stars!! :)) I absolutely LOVE this letter, Barbara! Your granddaughters will have such a treasure. Well You ARE their treasure. Whoever they have in their lives as adults, significant others even friends, people will see how important they were to you and I think people will treat them with more respect and they will have respect for each other and their own selves too because you are putting it out there that they are worth all this time and attention you are giving them through these letters. Your granddaughters will surely be wonderful and strong women of the future. They will be a part of making the world a better place and you are a reason for that.
I'm sending a message too. Have a good day!
x Alexandra :))
