There is something about a small boat, particularly a sailing craft that stirs the romance in ones soul.
I particularly liked the expression 'sky's dawn mottled hues.'

Yes indeed, boats offer an imaginative escape.
Thanks for picking out that expression as it was the one I was most pleased with in the poem.

I thought it was out of the same stable as Homer's 'wine dark sea'

You must be an early riser to see the dawn and take this picture. I loved your morning meditation and enjoyed the silent adoration of the beauty of the new day. I also liked the imagination with "My mind lit up and sailed away." Hope this does well in the contest!

I am not an early riser by habit as I am more of a night owl and don't go to bed before midnight, but when I do get up early I am always pleased I did! Experiencing moments such as these is a delight and it provided great inspiration for a poem. Thank you for your lovely review.

Thank you so much for finding my poem has merit and thank you for coming on the walk with me!

I can see how the photo inspired your words. It is simply gorgeous. You then take the reader on a walk rich in colors, the smell of salt sea air and an imaginary trip on a yacht. Then to end the walk, peace and contentment.
Beautifully written and presented.
Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes,
Mary

A stunning photo, and a wonderful poem to accompany it. You captured the view, the atmosphere, and the early morning quiet perfectly, as well as your thoughts as you surveyed the scene, with your senses involved. Technically, the rhyme was superb as was the metre and flow. Very enjoyable read. Best wishes for the contest. I hope it does very well.

Thank you for this lovely review, Wendy. I seem to be reaping the rewards of posting early in the week when people have 6 stars to bestow!

It's a shame we only have six. Perhaps there should be a limit of two per day or something. People often keep excellent pieces till Monday just to have a chance, then others, equally deserving, miss out.

You begin with a beautiful image, and then with your words you paint a masterful portrait of your early morning walk. We feel the air, we savor the stillness with you. Thanks for taking us along.

Ah, Lisa, you put me there on that dock with you at the break of day, looking at those yachts and that bobbing dinghy. What is really noteworthy is (1) your ability to describe the sunrise and how it colored the boats, (2) your making your reader share your desire to go adventuring with you on the open seas, and (3) such word choices as "dawn-mottled hues" and your use of sensory imagery. This poem should win! Rod

Thanks for your appreciative words about my poem... and thanks for that lovely high rating!
As soon as I see a boat it sparks dreams of sailing away, only trouble is I have a tendency to sea sickness - not very romantic at all!

The power of the written word in the form of poetry to capture the moment is well demonstrated here -the early morning walk and the sheer delight of the possibility of 'adventuring upon high seas,' and the aesthetic of 'tang of salt fresh on the breeze.'
