We can learn a lot from our animal companions, and I see that Aerial has been an inspiration to you in facing challenges. I'm sure you both appreciate each other very much. You described her antics entertainingly in this well written story - she sounds a most interesting cat.

It's hard for me to imagine having a pet live to such a ripe old age. She's approaching a record in that regard, isn't she? Feral cats are a problem where I live. There have been several litters in my garage over the years. Blossom has become a rare companion for you. I hope she has many more years of love and purring in her.
Jay.

Thank you. It is not unusual for cats to live into their twenties if they are well cared for. Blossom has never been sick a day in her life, which is more than I can say for myself. I have two other cats that are thirteen, two cats that are ten, and one five-year-old.
-
Wow! Six cats. That's a lot of cat food and kitty litter.

Blossom sounds like a super star. I have one that is my baby, and I am the only one she will get on my lap. She will not get on anyone else's. So, reading your story I can relate to Blossom and your love for her. You proclaim it very clearly.

Thank you. Blossom is a character and the love of my life. I will miss her when she is gone. Thanks for sharing your cat story with me.

"The Aerial Cat" is an exceptional biographical short-short about a woman and cat she's had for over twenty years. The descriptions of cat behavior are apt, and the emotional connection between the two main characters is presented rather than explained, and the former, in most cases, is the best way for a writer to get the job done.
I don't know if the title is as good as it could be - the cat in the story clearly loves to climb, and 'The Climbing Cat' or 'Blossom Aloft' might be better titles.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. I don't know. I just always told everyone Blosson was my aerial cat. She is pretty much a land-lover now. Lol

a fascinating story! I'm not really a cat person, being allergic to them, but when I read your first sentence I was amazed. I didn't know a cat could live that long.
Blossom was sure an adventurous cat, climbing so high. I'm glad she is a comfort to you.
I do want to ask, though, as I may have misunderstood, you put a ladder on top of hay bales? I cannot imagine that being safe, but then I'm sure you knew it would be.
Again, a fascinating story. I enjoyed it!

Thank you. Cats often live to twenty or more if they are well cared for. I was talking about round bales, which are a lot more stable than square bales. It still wasn't the safest thing to do, though.
-
ok.
my sister has a horse farm and throws hay every morning and I just wondered at the thought of ladder legs sinking in the hay.
I don't know whether she has round or square bales. will have to ask her :)
-
Round bales of hay weigh around 750-1000 lbs and are quite solid. The bales I climbed on had net wrap on them, which makes them even tighter. It still was a risky thing to do.
-
glad it turned out ok! :)

Very well written. Good work.
Blossom sounds like a gem, all right.
I just hope she got over the 'knocking stuff over that wasn't secured' out of her system.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. AS Blossom reached a mature age, she quit the wild rampages through the house, thank goodness.

I really like this One Touch my heart yes I can relate to wild kitties bringing home a batch for myself as a young girl which we kept 1A little Siamese cross her name was sheba.... I'm glad you have Blossom to console you on your quiet nights. Whatever happens to Blossom whether she be here Or on the other side, she will always be with you and will be the first to greet you when you get home to the other side. Very well written with excellent sentence structure and punctuation. An engaging story just the right length. Good luck to you and Blossom and thank you for showing us this story. it was a real pleasure!

Thank you. Blossom is a character, and she sat on my computer desk all the while I was writing this story. I will miss her when she is gone unless she outlives me.
Comment from SimianSavant
She resisted my overtures of friendship, hissing, <= **remove this comma** and growling whenever I got near her
My husband, Desi, and I <= **who is Desi? Is Desi a third character, or the name of your husband? It reads as three characters** were eating breakfast
Desi said; so Blossom she became from that day forward. <= phrasing slightly awkward. The semicolon is unnecessary.
demented, bright-colored whirlwind <= great description
"Meow, Yeow!" Blossom answered. <= put a new paragraph break before this, since the active voice is changing.
on top of the hay bales; wiped the sweat out of my eyes <= the semicolon should be a comma
She zipped down those two-by-fours like a professional tight-rope walker. <= nice
Blossom pulled her aerial routine on me several times <= adding a period of time could be helpful, eg "over the following weeks/months"
Thanks for the engaging read!

Thank you, and thanks for the grammer tips. I will consider some of them. I love your profile picture.

Thank you. It was designed for me by Dragonskulls. He is quite talented.

This is a wonderful story and tribute to your cat blossom. Blossom, it seems had a goal in mind, and she kept doing what she wanted to do. I like your conclusion that she had taught you about reaching your goal by staying by the stuff as long as you needed to. I like that kind of spunk in a person and in an animal. I only have one small typo thing to reveal. Where are you say, had got, Then the wording should have been had gotten. Patricia.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. I will edit and correct that, oops. Blossom is a unique individual in the world of cats. She has been such a comfort these last four years since my husband passed away.

This is a great story. I don't know what I would do without cats. I sued to have a huge Bengal named Zaphnathpaneah (It's a Bible name. Look it up. It's a great story and will surprise you).
Zaphnathpaeneah did lots of tricks but my favorite was somersaults on command.
When he died I'm glad it rained so my wife couldn't see my tears.
