Another great chapter in your book. I can imagine it took some time to get used to hearing that call to prayer. I am glad that what was happening gave you a great chance to teach your children about being able to pray to the Lord any time, and knowing that He heard them and would answer.

Thank you very much for your lovely review and encouragement Anne. Yes, everything became a teaching and learning experience - and it also gave opportunities to speak with non-Christian Australian families about the differences.

You are welcome, Wendy. I am sure that God used you as a witness during your time there.

Thank you again Wendy for sharing your experiences and of course, setting my nerves on edge. I could not live even a day in a country where I had to hide my face and never look at a man directly.... I would be one of those who was stoned or caned or whatever they do. Terror would keep me behind closed doors. You and your family were very brave and seem to have taken it in stride. (Except maybe for Nancy????)

Thank you Carol. What a super review. One quickly gets used to it, and yes, we took it all in our stride. You will hear about Nancy soon.

A beautiful description of life in Yemen. My wife's family is from Iran and they are Muslim, although my wife is a Christian. I think the call to prayer is a hauntingly beautiful chant. There is some sadness in seeing the spiritual distance from God, however.

Thank you for your great review, and also for the six star rating. Greatly appreciated words. Your wife will understand very well. Yes, the chant does grow on one, once we got used to it. The first few times it was very strange, and the mosque was quite close so it was loud. We were actually in Saudi Arabia, but so were the Yemeni men, trying to earn enough to send home to their impoverished families.

What a wonderful life experience. Would you return a second time? Rout prayers? God never hears their own concerns but at least they recognize a greater power.

Thank you Tom. Great review. Yes, it was a fascinating experience and we have some wonderful memories. Not sure about a second time after what happened at the end .... more later.

Ah, you did it to me. You left me dangling, wanting more. Your story is well told - very smooth. I don't think I could live in a place like that. It must have been somewhat uncomfortable.

Not sure you got my point that the As and?????s were in your 'Author Notes' section.

Oh! No I didn?t register that! Sorry. But I discovered them later when I went back to add a note about the thobe. And fixed it. For some reason the Fs site sometimes has trouble with apostrophes being copied into it. I?ll be a bit more alert next time. Many thanks.

Loved your post. You took us on a journey to a distant land. Unfortunately, the women are not seen and not heard (except at home) man is the boss. Still, we are a young country compared with the silk road and dust of the deserts. They know no other way of life - they are kind, love their children and pray a lot. I respect their beliefs. K xx

Thank you Kay! I am so encouraged by your words and your rating. It is a great honour to receive six stars. I value it a lot. How are you doing weather wise? Did you send all the rain down to us. Sydney is a real mess, flooding everywhere. Fortunately we are fairly high and so far so good. More yo come over the next few days. Summer seems to have been a non- event this year.
Take care, and thank you again, my friend.

I was thinking of you down there. So many people have lost everything. The Govt is in turmoil, housing is a priority. We have 14 dead so far. My ex lives on the Hawksbury. We are always in touch. It's still raining here! Are you making Hearing the call...into a travel book? Love, Kay xx
-
How is your ex? The Hawkesbury is in a very bad situation, worse than last year's very serious flooding.
Yes, I am hoping to combine the stories into a book. But I've never done anything like that before so it's a bit daunting.

Fortunately we haven't seen the religious police, talk about, you better worship Allah or else, I can remember befriending an Arab couple who had been educated in America, told us their compatriots were all hypocrites. Don't worry we've experienced the call to prayer in Dubai, Malaysia and Java, beautifully written blessings Roy

Great cliffhanger. Now you got me wondering about Nancy. I am glad that your children were so flexible and open to trying different foods!
I remember the noisy call to prayer. I guess I admire the discipline to pray so regularly throughout the day.
Question:
your little white thobe! (what is a thobe? is it attire for men?)

Yes it is the long loose white caftan type garment worn by Saudi men. I?d better add it to the notes.
Many thanks for your lovely review.
