60-word dash--excellent! What in the world went through your head when you heard 60??? And the potlatch means you have a short time to do it in? I don't much about it--I DO know it's way over MY head. This is great. I read a 50-word story yesterday and was blown away. Great job, once again!

It just seems the perfect way to express what I feel about this charming little tale - I hope it appears...

You're the only one that had the whimsical reaction I was looking for. Thank you kindly!! mikey

Seriously? Wow. That surprises me. You're very welcome - it was my pleasure.

Chillingly frightening, Mikey. It kind of reminds me of some of the haunting lyrics from Metallica's hit song, "One". Only in that song, the war ravaged, brain dead comatose victim is praying for death. But, not this guy. He wants to continue living--begging and pleading with Linda, who I assumed to be his wife, not to pull the plug on the life support machines. When it reaches that point, it's completely out of our hands, no pun intended.
Great writing, Mike, as per your usual style.

Glad you liked it. I think I should have added a more personal touch between husband and wife somehow, but with so few words. Oh well, it came out pretty well. :) mikey

My pleasure, buddy. I thought it was very good.

I really like this one. You did a great job. It invoked a great deal of emotion for such a short piece. Liked the ending. Well done.

Your writing always appeared in my inbox-I wondered why I hadn't seen much of late, then I found this posting. Hope you are doing OK-have missed more chapters of your book. Hard to confine oneself to so few words, but your story is complete, the horrible point of death. Well expressed and it read well. Good luck in the contest. Faye

You're right, I only answered your message in my mind and not in the real world. I meant to tell you that in your last review and that got buried somewhere too. I'm so sorry. I'm hardly here lately with work. Now, Donna broke her foot and I'm waiting on her hand and ... yep! You have a book out somewhere, correct? Where do I find it? I try and read your posts and usually do. I'll try and get some reviews in. I set my watch to go off at ten-thirty PM my time everyday to remind me to answer this review. Hahaha. It only took four alarms to do the trick. I hope all is well with you. mikey

Sorry you are having a difficult time right now, hope your wife recovers soon. You are being what we call over here, head cook and bottle washer (very English expression)-means you are left to accomplish all, including writing! Don't worry about reviews, so glad to hear from you. One thing I was going to ask you, a few people I asked already agreed. My publisher would like to include a few of my reviews about my poetry in the book. It should be out shortly. Would I be able to use one or two of your reviews, it will just say review written my Michael Cahill of California, USA. I just returned from a trip to Scotland, so the poems are in the works! Faye
-
Sure. That would be fine. I could even write some more glowing ones if you wish. :)
-
Thank you, Mikey, the ones you have written in the past for poems which are to be included in my book were always glowing, from my recollection. I really appreciate it, it is a good marketing tool, I believe. Faye

A clever way to reenact an out-of -body experience. Setting and conflict and two characters are clear. Climax with a character arc and resolution with the realization he's free at last.

So pleased you enjoyed. I MISS this place. Just when I thought I'd have a little time, Donna broke her foot and I'm now her errand boy and doing everything she used to do. Jeez, she did a lot. I suppose I'll have to be more appreciative or something in the future. :) It's difficult to teach men things. mikey

Sorry to hear about Donna. On the other hand, it give you something to write about--your realization that a woman's work is never done.:-)

Who knows, it could be true. What we will feel as we make the move from one form of existence to the next is something no one has ever returned to tell us. You tell the story so well with a consistent POV and excellent narrative voice. Good luck in the contest.

Life does seem to get in the way of writing some times, doesn't it?

Yes! I had so much fun last year. I got paid for doing nothing but writing and reviewing on Fanstory. Hahaha.
They're on to me this year!!

Oh, no! LOL

I often wonder if those people trapped in their bodies are aware of what is going on when the family 'pull the plug.' This is a really good contest entry, good luck! xsx Sandra

I'm pleased you liked this. Thank you so much. I'm one of the few who have told my family, "DON'T PULL THE PLUG!". I'm a I want to live regardless type. Of course, I haven't been there so who knows. Glad you enjoyed. mikey

This was quite an achievement. You wrote it in the only way that could possibly work with a sixty word limit -- with short, sharp phrases. I particularly like the last line.
