Thanks for sharing again from this book which gives us a different perspective from your other book. I would think having such different desires in city vs. country lifestyles could hurt a marriage but you made it work!
PS by the way, I learned from Phyllis Stewart years ago that repromoted works don't contribute to the current year's ranking. Just FYI.

Thank you Helen. I realize, that although Tom said that did, but I can't see how. I'm just doing it because if I try to get one in print, I'd like this one to be first.

Staying adventurous is hard for most of us to do, so it good that Evan had that sense, and of course that you were willing to let him use it. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

He was adventurous when in came to buying land and he made good decisions. When it came to camping his sense of adventure wasn't there.

Hi Beth, this continues to be so interesting. I can understand the yearn to farm the same yearn I've always had to sail the ocean. Some things just runs in your veins.I've sailed all my life to and Evan is doing what he had to do. Now on to the next part. Ulla:)))

I know the feeling of being stuck in the country. Every summer my mom was leaving us for 3 months to live with our grandparents in the village. We never got bored because we had to help with the field, gardening and even tend to the animals. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your next chapter.

Thank you Isa, I appreciate the review. There are worst places than the country. Now I live in the best of both world. I'm in the country to minutes for the convivences of the city.

Wonderful chapter. I always look forward to these episodes--I recall a chapter in your book Remembering Yesterday in which Evan answers Don's question about the bull's dick!

We won't be hearing Chuck stories? I've gotten rather attached to this character.

You can revisit your favorite Chuck and Scott stories in my portfolio. If I write new ones on the other side, I'll send copies.

This is a great story about another one of your adventures, Beth. At least you had a little experience with country living. I remember the first time I saw a horse being bred, after I got married. I felt like a surprised child! lol
I look forward to hearing about your camping trip out west.

Thank you Judy. We used to have free range chickens. When the rooster got on top of hen and grabbed her comb, at three, I embarrassed by parents by yelling for everyone to come see the rooster combing the hen.

What an enjoyable episode - for me to read that is, apparently aspects of it weren't so enjoyable for you! I liked reading this glimpse of family life with its compromises, juggling of responsibilities and interests.

Your chapter shows just how accurate that old saying is about your husband: "You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy."

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I never regretted having the experience of country living. When I was young, I thought there was more interesting things going on in the city but I was wrong. I'm glad you are enjoying my story.

I enjoyed your continuing saga of your family's adventures, Beth. This was an interesting chapter with lots of details. It reminded me of the tv show Green Acres. However, you made the best of the situation. The land did seem to be a good purchase at first as you said, but did become somewhat of a problem as time wore on.
Thanks for the insight into this part of your life.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. The land turned out to be the best investment we ever made. My husband was right in buying it while we could afford it.

I'm really enjoying these revived posts your engaging in Beth. You certainly got involved in the rural aspect of your life, and you've elaborated considerably on the earlier post on those aspects. Your husband having Welsh roots interested me, my surname is a common Welsh name, (from my father's father) my DNA is almost 50/50 Anglo Saxon and Welsh, beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, I'm so glad you're enjoying my repost. My husband's family were from Tregaron, Cardiganshire, Wales. Five of the Shelby or Selby (earlier) family migrated to Maryland in the early 1700's The original Evan Shelby came with his wife, who was a Davies. My grandmother was Davis and that family was also from Wales. Interestingly Owen is also one of the surnames in my husband's roots. Who knows, we may be related to you. It's a small world after all. According to Ancestry.com we have only Scotch, English, Welsh and Irish in our DNA. I know some of my people came from France, Germany and Switzerland but the tests didn't find it in the DNA.

I would love to have that land. I lived like that for several years, loved it, and still miss it. Eager to see what comes next on this trip west. Sounds very interesting.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I miss that land but I still have nineteen acres and plenty of trees. The land was a very good investment.
