This is a time of sadness and grief which you have skilfully captured in this emotive verse. Clearly, the griever is seeking answers or some kind of solution for her loss so that she may be able to restore her life to some kind of happiness again. In a sense, she's mourning the loss of pleasure as much as the deceased. I like this honest and credible perspective on grief. An excellent entry for the contest. Good luck, Tom! Debbie.

Thank you. By the response I am receiving, it seems this blind squirrel may have found an acorn... or was it discovered because of the bonus member cents that were gifted me by a FS friend. Either way it makes me happy.

Hi Tom
This is a nicely worded poem about how grief takes over days and nights.
You need strength to get through it to get somewhat back to normal.
You are a good photographer too.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Have a good weekend.
Joan

You're most welcome, Tom. I always enjoy your writing. Sad to 2025 started out badly for me. I had the flu for the first week and my brother in law died last Friday in his sleep.
    I hope yours was wonderful

Thannk you, and regrets for your loss. We too, lost a friend as my father-in-law was discovered by my wife Sunday dead on the kitchen floor when she went to feed him. He likely passed 15 hours earlier. So this piece came through the grieving of losing a cherished kin.

I am so sorry for your loss Grandparents are just so special I miss mine so much always.
The photography is excellent and goes beautifully with the poem. You have captured the emotion of grief very well throughout all the phases to go through and the pain it causes, so well done. I wish you and your family my deepest condolences, look after yourselves.
Best Wishes
Nicki

Thank you. Even though tears were shed, the memories overcame the grim we felt as smiles grew wide recalling the man his children called fondly, dad.

I like the rhyming but free-form verse you have presented here. It captures not only the grief that is central to the piece but also the sense of a fractured mind attempting to deal with the shock of loss.

Just a suggestion that you apply consistency in those final lines by using either thee/thy or you/your

I'll take a peek to see how I went astray, though it's been accepted as is without nary a peep. Thank you.

Very nicely written poem of grief.
Speaking of ids and egos, mine, I'm afraid, needs a good slappin' on a fairly regular basis.
Good luck in the contest.

Well, I am willing but untrained on slappin. Have you someone nearer to thee that could lend a hand. I think I'll try spending time writing a roulette or ode. Be well

You've beautifully captured the grief that grips our hearts after the loss of a loved one. And it eventually will listen its grip, but only after a few sleepless nights. I am sorry for your loss and know this poem is one we all can relate to.

Grief seems to be galloping through our family. We lost our sweet granddaughter about 15 months ago, and it is a bitter pill to swallow. This is a wonderfully written poem. Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

I only now recall it being in a contest. I read it graveside this morning and nearly choked on the emotions that tore at my heartstrings.
    Thank you.

Dad was a "special" man. Needed no one to do anything, save to bury him, and yet he was compassionate for the unfortunate, supporting many who needed it.
