Oh dear, we know what sort of day Waylon has had. That teacher didn't take any notice of Miranda, and she didn't take any notice of Mitch's advice. But I can't see her changing much, either! Lol. Miranda is a force all of her own. I hope Mitch can salvage something. The poor boy doesn't have much in his life at the moment.

I'm just out of hospital after another mega asthma attack, so I'm behind with loads of reading and reviewing. I'm glad I got out in time to read this chapter. Well done, I can't wait to read on. Warmest hugs. Sandra xx

This is a good addition to the Miranda story. Hopefully Mitch doesn't give up on her as she can make mistakes. Poor Amanda, she goofed again where Waylon is concerned. That teacher is a real butt, as my Grandkids say. One change needed: . . . bus as (its' brakes) protest.

Miranda is a woman from a small town, no wonder she's tough as nails. There is nothing wrong with Miranda's attitude. She's a mother and when the mother instinct kick in you better watch out. She's amazing to take a child who's piece of crap father up and left and love him. I respect a person like Miranda.

So many emotions... I understand mama bear, Miranda, I can also understand, Waylon. It's a fine line.

Mitch and Miranda make such a great couple.... I love it.

Well done!

Hello Gretchen,
this is another great chapter. Miranda is certainly outspoken, and I fear that Mitch might get tired of having to put out fires for her. I think I might have done the same thing she did as far as the teacher goes, but it appears to be backfiring on her right now. Unfortunately tenure is working in the teacher's favor, so he can get away with being an ignorant jackass. I think "brakes" is the correct spelling for the school bus gal. Well done, as always. Have a blessed day.

This is my first chapter but it appears to me Miranda is full jets, all the time and Mitch is more reserved, at least from this chapter. I'm trying to put the story together in my mind but will need more reading. I did find what looks like a typo:
"I said though clenched teeth." (Should though be through?)
The dialogue is active, and the smoking neighbor seems to have Superman hearing.

This chapter does a good job of raising questions that the reader will want to answer. It invites us to keep going, which is the real task of the chapter. You jump into past tense at the end, but that's an easy fix. Well done!

This is such a good chapter, Gretchen. So many truths spoken and such good character representation.

I love Miranda's spirit, but she has a way of causing her own problems. I also love how good Mitch is for her and how level-headed he is. His advice and perceptions are spot on: "I don't care what other people think about you or me. You shouldn't either."

and

"He's lucky to have you in his corner. But you need to look at why you did what you did. Was it for him or for you?"

He has a good influence on Miranda and helps her to realize that maybe she needs to rein it in: "That's when I realize I should have listened to Mitch. That is the exact moment I realize that even though I have learned to recognize red flags in others, I still don't see my own."

This is really good stuff. I also enjoyed the humorous exchange with Mrs. Fine.

Your characters are so real and well-developed. This is very engaging.

You have a great way of making us sympathetic to Miranda even if we would not say/do any of the things she does. It's good that she has Mitch in her life. It is good that she's become a real mom to Waylon but I don't know how she's going to fix the fire she started with Waylon's nasty teacher. Maybe Mitch will find out more about that teacher's background.

Hopefully, Mitch can toss some water on this fire. I think Waylon knows she's in his corner. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Miranda is like me, she has a fast tongue-trigger, they get out words long before we can stop, I guess that's why I write, one can't edit the tongue, it does what it wants to do. But at least with writing, one can edit, but quick answers I'm good at, I understand fault, I have so many, but like Miranda, I'm the same. but God and I'm working on it. Rome wasn't built in a day, heh heh, well done Gretchen, blessings Roy
