What an amazing and heart-warming story! I see people post ads on Craigslist personals these days, and they make me giggle. This was definitely a unique way to get a date, long before the Internet! I'm glad they got married too. I saw one possible typo:
"I'll write a short piece as though I was Charles Edward Peterson --"
Because it's a postulation, the verb should be "as though I WERE" but if you wanted to keep it in colloquial English, it can be kept as "as though I was." I think it's a decision on style.

Thank you, Aiona, for the exceptional review and the suggestion. My father-in-law would often tell that story at a family gathering. He was an amazing person. He lived near a small Louisville airport when he was growing up and used to go to the airport to wash some planes. Eventually, they took him flying and he learned to fly that way. He flew both fighters and bombers. He was one of the lucky ones to come home.

This Non-Fiction is a simply intriguing and gripping account of how life happens, so to speak. We are not really in charge ( in my view ) of those really big events in our lives, Thanks for sharing.

You and I are on the same page when it comes to how things happen. We really don't know what we don't know. Cardinals appear when someone recently passes. A butterfly will land when none have been seen for days. My mother could stand in the back yard and hold out her index finger and a butterfly would often appear. Things happen the way they are supposed to.
