Very interesting poem and yet, so true. I really liked how you made this into a story that should make us all take note. There are some people who seem to control groups of people without much hesitation. Great Poem! Good movie too!

I liked reading your poem. It is best to check out what others say. I think about how Hitler controlled the Germans. I've see documentaries about how tge German people were brainwashed. Well written.

I think you are on to something true. The ultimate truth speaks loud and clear about how we hide the knowledge of our youngsters whose innocence speaks the real truth.
Thus, learning becomes a dangerous thing and the powerful hide the reality from all those who try to learn the reality of how we rule the class system of our peers.
A classist society rules absolutely and the rulers keep the truth hidden from all those who want to learn.
I have never heard of an idiom poem before but I like how it tells a truth that is hard to say.
Thanks for speaking the truth of how learning is a dangerous thing.

Very good poem. Nice rhyming and telling an all too sad story. Power corrupts comes to mind. Thanks for sharing and I think this might just do well in the contest. Well done. Take care and have a great day.

Well done with this, the language is excellent, the flow and the theme are good, you're right about children, they pick up a lot more that we give them credit, when they go away and analyse what we've said they recognise truth. Beautifully written, blessings and good luck, Roy
Typo : Grown doesn't really fit the second, tone might be better. Apart from that, it's OK.

This is a good entry for the My Faith poetry competition. The photo is a perfect illustration for your poem and its message. These days, with history books being "revised" and the embarrassing parts of the past being omitted so we don't look bad, a little bit of honest learning is hard to come by and can prove very dangerous--especially to the youth with whom we entrust our future. I enjoyed your poem. Your rhyme scheme is consistent until the final stanza, but the last rhyming couplet actually emphasizes your point. Nicely done!

I 100% agree with you! It's too hard to find unbiased sources that try to find the actual truth, not just what everyone wants to hear. Thank you so much for the kind review and have an amazing weekend!

A powerful and moving poem in these days of book burnings, book bans, and cutting back on support for ethnic studies, foreign language, humanities, history, regional studies, not to mention sex education and don't say gay bills proliferating everywhere.

You definitely got exactly what I was trying to get across here! Some people took this as a critique into kids getting 'indoctrinated' into being gay or 'woke' when it was more about religion/fascism and trying to make the kids all fit into the same 'traditional' mold!

Well said, Videl. You have the uncanny ability to hit the nail on the head. In today's world, "Father knows best" leans more towards---as you put it--- "Never forget, the powerful always know best. Such is our sad state of affairs.
Completely agree with the old idiom: A little learning is truly a dangerous thing. Well written free-verse poem. I wish you the best for the contest.

Your poem delivers a powerful and thought-provoking message. When I started college, I was disappointed to learn you couldn't believe everything you read in the newspaper or in books. Real knowledge is as a result of curiosity and research. A little knowledge IS dangerous. Best wishes in the contest.
Word suggestion: There are those that... (those who)

I agree! College was definitely an eye opener, especially because I came from a very small town with very set beliefs! Thank you so much for the kind words, and have an amazing weekend!

Most of the time, we would like to think that the stories we read are just about the past and it couldn't happen again. Unfortunately, it can and if we aren't faithful and stay alert to what's happening in our world and right next door, it may happen again.
Hugs, Carol
