This is a powerful poem. Some of the rhymes felt a little forced, but the message was clear. We are all blinded by our privileges to the needs of others. This was something we all need to hear. We, all of us, have passed a homeless person in need and have thought about helping them, but then we decide to ignore the problem and hope someone else takes care of them. Thanks for sharing your work.

And in this one will you please tell me which rhymes seem forced?
Thank you for your excellent review and nice comment

This is a touching piece about how hard it can be to do the right thing, but how important it is to try anyway. It's far too easy to believe it's someone else's problem. Thanks for sharing this commentary on human nature and societal issues.

Excellent story about the homeless. A sad commentary on our society that we can't take care of the homeless.
I agree that the Salvation Army does what they can and we should support their cause.
Well done
Blessings

Pam, this is one of your better ones. I love the flow and the story it tells. It is a sad story, but just the same it is a good reminder of what the homeless go through. Well done, Pam.
Yes, I too, am guilty of giving them a passing sympathetic look, but now depend more on organizations such as the Salvation Army.

Thank you so much for these six shiny stars and for your wonderful comments. You made my day.

Your poem tells a story that, sadly, happens too often~especially now when inflation and prices are high and people can't provide for themselves or families and end up homeless. Too many people ignore the situation when they have the ability to help, even a little. Well done!

I have complicated feelings on this subject but I appreciate the advice in your notes. That is probably the most effective way. I like how you ended this poem; it effectively sums up your point.

Many or most of us would have been that woman on the train at one point or another, sadly. It's wise to give through a charity or to offer a meal rather than money which could be spent foolishly. But until we've walked in their shoes we will never fully understand or know their full story. A fine poem, well-written, thought-provoking and meaningful, worthy of a six, but I have none left, sorry.

Excellent rhyming and story telling. I felt empathy for the woman and the homeless man. It is so difficult to discern the correct (and safe) way to approach these situations.
Your suggestion to help through a vetted charity is wise.

Reading this I could see myself walking down a similar path but next time I will remember and do more to help. Very nice work bringing awareness to the homelessness in our country.

You handled it well. Tough subject. When I was going home from getting groceries a while back, I saw a man up ahead panhandling. You could tell he was real, his sign said I will work for food. I was in slow traffic, so I emptied a bag, put in some tangerines, a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, a couple foil packets of tuna, and some apples and my vitamins. When I held the bag out, he ran to get it and beamed and blessed me, I got as much joy from it as he did. It was a good day. I got my husband his peanut butter the next day. :-) Karen
