This is very nostalgic. I'm sure in your mind you feel like you lost something when you found out the town and become a ghost town. Question when you went back in 2016 was anybody living there.? I think you're calling a ghost town means that it doesn't have any people in it

I had the opposite happen
We lived in a small town in Arizona that was 100 miles southwest of Tucson. When we moved there, they were less than 3000 people living there and then there was another town named Bisbee had about 6000 people.

Now, the town I lived in as over 100,000 people and the other town still has 6000

But, neither one of them is a ghost town

It's cool that you get to go back into the past and then look at what's happened in that future that was there in the past. Another words you were able to see the past and not know the future.

Well, I'm going to leave it at that

I really did like your story. Unfortunately, when transferring from your source to the site, the formatting went crazy. Maybe you can rectify asap.
In essence though I am glad to hear that the trip was a good one for you and your father. Always nice to have some fond memories.

I thought your writing beautifully shares your own growth with the changing landscape of America. The journey with your father in 1973 sounds wonderful. I like how you show not only a physical passage across Oregon's but also an emotional journey with your dad. I love how you share the impact these trips had on you. A little hard to read in places though. You might want to edit this a bit. Great job overall.
