An excellent entry for the Childhood writing prompt. You make it sound so much fun. I was raised in a small town but I always thought city life looked fun in summer for kids. Good luck in the contest.

This poem brings to life how life was in another era when kids could be kids and play and have some childhood fun - not on screens!! the final two lines encapsulate a fact of life that has seriously changed since then,

I enjoyed reading this because I could have removed "Chicago" and replaced it with "Brooklyn" and it would have read as if it were about my life. Every aspect that you described was a part of my life, too.
Growing up in Bedstuy Brooklyn was just like what you decribed.
Thanks for sharing memories.

What a blast from the past this is. Thank you for sharing this the graphic goes along quickly too. I like the sentiment that you don't have to be rich to enjoy your life and have fun. I wish more people knew this.

I love your poem! It reminds me of mine, except I grew up in Illinois in a tiny town. The summers were brutal with the humidity, and I wore hand-me-downs too. We just didn't have an opened fire hydrant to cool off with. Thanks for sharing!

Mystery poet, I so enjoyed your rhyming poem of your childhood in Chicago. I grew up in a time when we played outside all day too, and we just had to be home, unscathed, by supper. A delightful contest entry.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes in the Childhood Contest.
