Excellent

This story is reflective and draws the reader in. You handle the memories well, and there is a sense of grief within the words without evoking emotion in the reader. The last paragraph sums up David's feelings well, so well in fact, I sense rather than know personally how a man must feel I look forward to reading more.

I have never been to the Carlsbad Caverns, but this story put me there. I like how you "record" what David saw and heard as he trekked through this underground phenomenon. I also like how you use the mother/son connection throughout this piece. A very strong entry in this contest. I wish you well. Rod

Your story beautifully captures the deep connection between David and his mother. This was so enjoyable . I thought your narration was heartfelt. I was transported into a world of caverns. There was a sense of wonder and awe at the natural beauty of the underground landscape. The way you depict David's journey from childhood dreams to real life exploration is so inspiring. This was wonderfully crafted with so few words.
