A cheerful little offering that should do well in the contest. I remember holding buttercups under my chin as a child. It's good to be able to absorb a little extra sunshine, perhaps even more so now than it was then.

Thanks, Tony. Roadside flowers are beautiful at the moment. That and the one really fine day of the last week inspired the poem.
I remember the buttercups under the chin thing... but I'm sure you know absorbing extra sunshine is not a great idea.

Hi Steve,
Yeah, you've got buttercups in bloom down there, while we are awaiting our first snowfall up in here in New Brunswick. So far, we've just had a couple of dustings that didn't keep. I can't imagine a Christmas without snow, though we have had a couple in the past. Cold and clear for Santa dear.
Buttercups are one of my favorite wildflowers. Also forget-me-nots, those teeny tiny blue petals.
I especially like your use of a "b" word in each line, "beneath/brims/buttercup"
Good Luck in the 3-line poetry contest!
Cheers,
Kimbob

Thanks, Kimbob - glad you liked this. Buttercups carpeting the sides of our rural roads at the moment - a glorious sight. I'll still fight to keep them out of our lawns, though.
Your words prompted me to improve my geographical knowledge by checking out where New Brunswick actually is. Quite far north so I understand the snow - which we don't get here in the north of New Zealand. Is NB the smallest Canadian province?

No, that would be our neighbor, Prince Edward Island. We always took our kids for a summer vacation there... to Adams Seaview Chalets and Cottages in Darnley.

I love buttercups, and they're my favorite color! Thank you for a reminder of sunny skies as northern Florida experiences a very cold spell! A wonderful harbinger of thing (hopefully!) to come and a good entry for the contest.

Thanks, Jim.
We are right at the start of summer here and the rural roads seem to have bright yellow carpets either side, stretching as far as the eye can see. I know they are weeds and I don't like that they're starting to pop up in my lawn as well, but heck they are beautiful and certain to raise the spirits.

The closest thing we can get to a an "approaching" butternut summer are in the form of the quite pretty sower sobs that grow profusely in the spring, then of course, is Patterson's Curse, beautifully written Steve, blessing Roy

Thanks, Roy. Some of the prettiest flowers are weeds and they are just about the only ones I can grow!

That's right, it is summer on the other side of the world there in Australia. I love the phrase buttercup summer.
It sounds so free and easy just like walking in a field during a summer's picnic. I think you have nailed the feel-good feeling of summer.
Thanks for sharing a wonderful moment in time.

Yes. Weeds to some, are beautiful flowers, to others. I love Dandelions!
Enjoy your summer!

I like your summery poem on this dark, cold night. This is a perfect
three line poem for me. I like: cloudless skies, golden dreams and especially buttercup summer. Also, the alliteration. Congratulationss on a blue ribbon

Enjoy the beauty. We are starting winter here in California. Leaves have beautiful fall colors still on the trees.

Come on. Are you trying to make us cry here in the great white north. We are so far from summer this was painful to read. Ha!
Having said that it is beautifully done.
PS My wife calls me Buttercup. Now, do you think that is a good thing or a bad one?

Thanks, Doug/Buttercup. I'm sure you could find a YouTube video performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Little Buttercup' from HMS Pinafore. Perhaps you could learn the lyrics to get more sympathy from your wife!

Since it is 27 degrees Fahrenheit where I'm at, I appreciate your poem, it's message, the warm yellow background, and the formatting. Thank you for the warmth.
