Hi, Barbara. This is such a creative and thoughtful idea. Your letters will surely be cherished for generations to come.

In your second paragraph, "I've purchased a map of Missouri and drew..." should be either "I purchased a map of Missouri and drew..." OR "I've purchased a map of Missouri and drawn...." In the next sentence, "Someday maybe your grandpa, and Uncle Steven, and I..." should be "Someday, maybe your grandpa, Uncle Steven, and I..."

In the sentence, "I couldn't let that drop, so continued,...," I think it would help to add "I" in there as "I couldn't let that drop, so I continued..."

In the sentence, "I'm sure they'll change as I and you age," it should be "...as you and I age." The other person or people included should always be mentioned before you, like you did with "...your grandpa, Uncle Steven, and I...."

I love this idea, and I think many will agree and even start writing letters of their own. I wish one of my grandparents would've thought to do this for me when I was a child. I would've cherished them forever.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Barbara. Many blessings to you...

What an adorable picture. Makes me weep for my little girl. x

And the writing here is enchanting too. Love the little conversation and I can just see the tilt of the head and the hands on hips.

Gorgeous. Thank you. x

A wonderful photo; thanks for sharing it. I'd say that Charlotte has a bright future ahead. Thanks for sharing about your visit and what it meant to you, and how you spent time with Charlotte. Her answer to your question was priceless and shows a lot about her and how she thinks.

The lessons learned section is very good and heartfelt. It sounds like Charlotte had a lovely time with her grandmother, as well as getting to explore in her mother's lab. Well done.

What a brilliant little girl. She is so much older than her years.
I am sure she will treasure and follow her grandmother's wishes for her.
Great picture of a little girl curious about the world.
Best wishes,
Mary

Oh my word Barbara,
the minute I saw this picture I started laughing. In all honesty, this would be a perfect picture for a magazine of some sort- school, science, ladies magazine, something. What an amazing little girl. You are so blessed to be able to call her your granddaughter. I believe that she's already setting the foundation for a wonderful life ahead. She just makes me feel like asking the Lord's blessing and guidance for her life. Well done grandma!
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thank you, Barbara, for this ongoing and utterly charming series of 'letters' to these little girls. Well, who would not be proud of Charlotte? As for the use of 'veterinarian' - half the people on this site don't know what that is, and the other half can't spell it! (That just leaves you and me, Barbara!)

But the perfect riposte, 'I'll let you know when I figure it out. I'm only five!' is worthy of a family soap - who is that child's agent??? And, as always, your final list and prayer is an inspiration.

Thank you.

Paul

Charlotte is remarkable for a five-year-old. My son, Andrew corrected her the other day, and she looked him in the eye and said, "Daddy, that doesn't sound right." She does have mind of her own. I hope she doesn't lose that. As an adult it will serve her well. As a parent, it's difficult. Thank you for the support.

I agree - any parent should rejoice in having such a strong minded daughter!
She will be a treasure at school.

I loved her answer to you. I'm only five, I have no idea. But you'll be the first to know when I figure it out. Your granddaughter sounds like she's definitely on a path for success. Great letter. Gretchen

Thank you for the support. Charlotte is a character, but totally different than Eleanor.

At least you got a response of veterinarian, most times a five year-old will say... I don't know.

Jackson, our five yr-old grandson has responded, Spider-Man, a dancer, football player and as recent as two weeks ago when we saw him, he was into legos and following the instructions to build it on an iPad, very focused.

Hopefully I'll be alive to see him graduate college one day.

Great letter...
John

This Letter 10 for Charlette, is a wonderful memento that you can protect now, and those babies can cherish in the future as they look back into their roots and family ties. So neat.

Charlotte sure put you in your place, Grandma. Lol. It's unusual to see a five-year-old so focused on her future plans for life. I grew up in the fifties and wanted to be a veterinarian, but my father said it was no career for a girl. Now, I wish I had pursued my dreams. I love the photo of Charlotte.

Same thing happened to me. Dad said no. He was paying for my college. I became a teacher. An acceptable career for a woman. In his opinion. Thank you for the support.
