What a heartfelt tanka, Gypsy. King Salman of Saudi Arabia since 2015 debased women. He has no feeling for women. He is a ruler that has no feeling at all for women, maybe he should live a day in their shoes. Blessed Be n Hugs!!! Great pictures.

So far in America women still have rights. I hope that doesn't change as our government continues to take our rights away. I enjoyed reading. You did a wonderful job with this presentation.

"Bend the knee" is a phrase.... (idiomatic) To submit to another's authority.

I don't know King Salman. I wonder if there really is a "Desert Queen" or if all kings and monarchy must bow down to Nature herself. Your poem reminded me of how Queen of Sheba went to visit King Solomon. The Ethiopians believe that they are descended from their union.

I made up the name "desert queen". King Salman is the real king of Saudy Arabia.

The poem can be different things to different people. It's pure fantasy on my part.

Thank you very much, big sister. I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.

    Love

Hi Gypsy Queen,
I have harvested and collected such desert sands in my rock and crystal library. Any shiny object take my attention, it's my hawk nature!
I actually smashed and broke my thumb on a miss hit of the huge rock I was trying to crack open to find its secrets many years ago of this exact mineral. A formation of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte, which include abundant sand grains. ... The "petals" are crystals... how could one not be drawn to nature's wonderland? At the time I was in club of rock hounds, I used to go out and explore with our group and by myself, then take what I found back to our work rooms to either cut, polish, and or shape. I miss this activity also... one-by-one my world is shrinking in one way, and blooming in another, Crazy hey?

I love the movement your created in your words to emulate the ever changing shifting sands.

So, just a thought:

Veiled with the ever-changing sand...
dance with gusting winds.
The syllable count remains the same.
Gust winds... it's more like gust of wind...
so even dance with gusts of wind.
Okay, don't shoot the messenger.Lol:))

Ah, King Salman, failing of health, but on the positive side, he did decree, allowing women to drive in Saudi Arabia and Salman's major initiatives as king include the Saudi intervention in the Yemeni Civil War.
So I'm hoping his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will take it even further and bring Saudi Arabia into the twenty-first century where men do not rule over their women's fate.

So much controversy within this royal family, deaths, kidnapping, disappearances, and that's just within the female side of the royal family, Don't want to even image the fate of the rest dissidents within the country.

I found this Tanka poem very thought provoking, and as per usual, the presentation is stunning!

With our thoughts we create...
the shifting perspectives of our own fate.

Warmest regards,
James.

    Hello, Mr. Hawk, LoL

I don't approve of Saudi Arabia government and treatment of women. I just used it for the poem. I am very grateful to live in America where women have rights. I just used a king because it fits the poem. When I was married to Robert, he got an offer to work in Saudi Arabia teaching English as a Second Language ESL classes. The job included housing and a car. I think the earnings are not taxed over there. Anyway, we ended up not going because it was too far from our kids and I didn't like how they treated women.

Thank you for the lovely review and helpful feedback. I chaned the poem and it does sound better.

My family went out to a Greek fair and I am enjoying some peace and quiet LoL

    Abrazos,

Gypsy Queen of the Desert ;)

Gypsy,

On first read, I thought it was King Solomon, but your note explained my misconception.

Should it be "dune's (sic) Desert Queen"?

Not enamored by your upper and lower case treatment of some words. Was this because of your concept of blowing sand? Otherwise, I would consider explaining why you chose that type style.

Mark

Ah. This was very erotic. I read a book in high school called the Black Rose. It was set in the middle eastern desert. I loved the imagery. Like this it leaves the reader begging for more. Gretchen
