This tanka suite, The First Cut is the Deepest, has the proper formatting and perhaps can be the summer and winter split by the withering effects of fall.

I have a friend who just separated from her husband. She lives her life comparing everything to how it was with him. She has forgotten all of his flaws and bad judgement and just pines away. All I can do is listen. Hope she will snap out of this world of dilution before it's too late. This was another amazing poem. Gretchen

I went through that when my ex-husband and I separated. I didn't want to live anymore but somehow I made it through. I was very in love with him but he fell in lust with a married coworker... she was beautiful and I guess he just got tired of me. It took me 5 years to move on. Nobody understood why. He wasn't my first love, he was the last one.
Thank you very much, Cretchen. I appreciate that you took the time to read and review my poem. Have a wonderful day.

This is a very sensual evocative poem which spells out raw passion with pathos and high energy. I especially like the second and third lines...beautiful. Enjoyed much.

I so remember that Cat Steven's song. I know I'm showing my age by stating that. But in reality, I'm only 16 years old. We won't mention that I have 5 children older than that. Thank you for the perfect presentation.

LoL I'm showing my name too. I was 15 years-old when it came out. It was a really good album.
Thank you very much Barbara.

Oh the beautiful use of nostalgia as a tool to draw your readers into the longing of lost loves. Well done Gypsy!! The double Tanka and the immersion into intricate artwork keeps the reader engaged as the words roll over in your mind. I enjoyed reading it.

Love the song, love the sentiment and we never forget our first love and the heart-break we feel is never as bad as the first time. Sorrowful memories that never leave us, a fine presentation, love Dolly x x x

Ciao!
when I read your title, Rod Stewart came to mind. My mother and I were big fans. He had lots of great ballads.
And "The First Cut Is The Deepest" was definitely one of his biggest hits.
If someone's first love went wrong, can that person still love again? Never been in love , so I can't answer that.
Well, the lady in the poem has not moved on yet;
she still longs for her lost love....memories of them together still make her heart spark and inflame her body.
Your art choices are always a delight to relish.
PS: I always thought Rod wrote this song...I prefer his version and raspy, gritty voice.

More famous in the versions by PP Arnold and then Rod Stewart! As usual your careful choice of language is perfect here, although I don't like 'steamy'. It seems to spoil the otherwise perfect atmosphere. Even 'steaming' might be better?
