Hi, Jake. Good to read you again. When I first saw your blog, I took in the main story plus footnotes. It didn't take long to read the story, but now I read the footnotes with care, I'm almost too exhausted to write the review!
Well, I know Oregon State, and Portland in particular - which is strange, since the only part of America I visited is Louisiana! There is one serious and one fatuous reason to explain this conundrum: fatuous is my being enthralled by six seasons of 'Grimm' on Netflix - so a lot of Portland on show there; serious, my outstanding professional singing friend in Salzburg hails from Portland and gave me a large book on her hometown, which I proceeded to read from cover to cover.
So much for serendipity - but your travels are far more significant - and I never heard of Bend before -and now I'm unable to travel, I'm sorry that I'll never experience it. I wonder why it has blossomed into such an amazing place?
Brilliant for dining out, for the new College, and specialism in artisanal beer, wine and Kombucha? People in the UK have never heard of Kombucha - in fact, I'm sure that it doesn't even exist in the UK! But I do know, at least, what it is.
The strength of this piece, Jake, is that it is so comprehensively researched. I know I can't do it justice in a single review - and if I lived in the States, I would certainly bookmark it - because you have totally sold me on 'Bend'. Tomorrow I intend to go on line again to do some follow up on the 'second fastest growing city in the states.' Thanks for piquing my interest.

Bend is indeed a special little town - very trendy these days and the beer is great! as is the Kombucha

Great story. Very informative. I once dated a judge's son who was from Bend. He came to Australia to play basketball. That was back in 1993 when I was 18. Great bloke. Thank you for sharing your experiences in this town. I really enjoyed reading your story. Jacqueline
