Yvonne, this is a riot! You are so good and such a wonderful person. I knew that already; and apparently a great driver. How funny the others couldn't get the hearse around the corner and ran over the grave. I am known to have a wicked sense of humor sometimes. Forgive me. But the dearly departed should be left undisturbed.
Sending you my best today as always.

Hello Yvonne,
I am SOOO glad you posted this. I absolutely loved it. I knew that you had worked in the funeral parlor, but I didn't realize the full extent of your work. I found it fascinating that you had to cut the back of the clothes. Frankly, I couldn't work around bodies. I fear that I would have nightmares. I'm going to assume that you didn't have to put underwear on the bodies? What you told the CEO was hilarious. What a pompous ass! I so wish that we had been neighbors. We would have had the best time swapping stories of our lives. Thanks so much for sharing this gal, it was great!
Have a blessed evening.

Thank you so much! I'm happy you liked this. I can be a bit of a smart aleck sometimes, but only when I feel it's deserved. I wish we were neighbors, too. I'd love to swap stories with you.

I like the way you are. Sometimes you need to give a smart answer. It may not change the person, but it makes you feel better.

It did!

Thank you for this wonderful review!

You have had a very interesting life, and have reinvented yourself in so many different directions, it is phenomenal. I was amazed at the school bus driver story, but funeral director is just as amazing. This should have been entered in the True Story contest. As a funeral director, you had so many unusual experiences, it would be hard to top. You are remarkable. Best wishes on your writing journey.

Thank you for such glowing compliments. I'm humbled by your thoughts. Yes, I've had some very interesting jobs, and loved every one of them. I was so lucky!

I've certainly enjoyed all four parts of jobs book and this one is my favorite yet. Having owned a salon, I was often asked to do hair and makeup for deceased clients. Many even put it in their wills that I would be the one to do it. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I knew we had a lot in common. I did everything but embalm. I wasn't licensed for that. Had I been younger when I started the job, I would have gone to mortuary school. I never did hair or makeup. Occasionally, I was asked to re-fix hair just a little. Several people have asked for more to these stories. There are a few thing I forgot to include, so I may do that later. Thank you for this wonderful review!

You did an excellent job sharing this story with FS, Yvonne.
You handled what could've been a depressing story with great
tactfulness. The words flowed smoothly with compassion for
the families involved who you worked with in their time of grief.
I'm thrilled you 'stole' an urn for the family who otherwise wouldn't
have had one. I know they are very, very expensive. In every instance
where you were called upon to help, you came through with flying
colors. I loved the story of you driving the hearse in the historical
cemetery. Of course, you could handle any vehicle after driving
the school bus as long as you did when all of them were filled
with teens. My new name for you is Miss Dynamo. The CEO got
a taste of that from you, and it was well-deserved.
Thank you for sharing, Jan

Hi Yvonne, ha, ha, ha, you had so many great stories. I could easily see the fighting and arguing at the cemetery. I don't know what it is about wedding and funerals, but families sure like to act up at both of these occasions. I also liked your story about the CEO. In my younger day, I had a similar experience, and I got a big promotion out of it. Lol. Yvonne, all the courtesies that you extended to families in their hour of grief was a very important job, and I am sure that people remembered you for many years, and that they smiled when they thought of you. Unfortunately, I think that funeral homes are changing. They are now corporations, and making the most on the deceased is their objective. Thank you for sharing this most interesting job experience. As time goes on, I may have questions for you on the subject. In fact, you might be having all of FS sending your questions. Ooh to be so popular. Lol. Well done. Excellent writing. I wish that I had a Sixer. Xo. M

I would love to answer any questions. Yes, the business has changed out of all recognition. It's become cold and sterile in my opinion. I got out at just the right time.

Yvonne, like all of us that are around the same age, we got out of the rat race just in the nick of time. The world has gone mad. Xo. M

I'll bet over time these funeral directors have to put up with all sorts of things in their lives, or rather, in the ex-lives of their "clients" I loved this post, with its widely diversified handling of some very humorous situations, well done Yvonne, blessings Roy

I enjoyed reading your tale here about working at a funeral home. You had some funny incidents and I actually find this type of work interesting. You meet so many different kinds of people. Excellent writing here that holds the reader's attention.
