This story, A Dream Fulfilled, gives the readers an idea of the meaning in "be careful what you wish for". What we cherish is sometimes in the same room with what annoys us, I guess.

We too had finally achieved our dream country estate. Then I made the mistake of taking credit for it myself. Look what I had done! It all came tumbling down. There is only one mansion we need to be concerned with, and that is the one our Lord has promised us.
A very good story with a strong lesson in living. Bold enough to merit a six-star rating.

This is a perfectly told story of a life of poverty engendering dreams of greater things, perhaps to finally belong with a wealthier crowd, and how that dream, when realized, didn't provide the anticipated rewards. It is so true that earthly things will never bring true happiness, which is really contentment. That can be found only in accepting the grace of God. That does not mean that we cannot appreciate the finer things. We just need to keep them in perspective and make sure that they don't come to own us.
