A heartfelt message, filled with warm feeling for your dad. Good structure to the poem and the message is very clear. Good work.

What a wonderful tribute to your father. Your love is quite apparent and your father left a legacy of music to his family. Joyful music. Excellent imagery. Best of luck in the contest. The piece is beautifully done. Blessings, Linda

This is a beautiful tribute to your father. My ex father-in-law was quite a picker in his day too. We used to beg him to get out his banjo and play on the holidays, and he rarely disappointed us. Thise of us who could play guitar would bring our instruments, and it was the best feeling, making music with the family while "dad" was the leader of the band.
I really miss those days, and thank you for the beautiful reminder of my own family.
Sincerely,
Curt

Wonderful poem here. The rhythm is nice. Quick. Your phrasing and sentence structure made it an easy read. I found no errors in your writing.

Fabulous poem, Sixteezkid.
You created a poem with excellent imagery and description.
My husband plays guitar. He used to get together with a friend who played banjo. I loved to sit and listen to them pick together. There's nothing to rev the soul like good bluegrass music!
Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Bluegrass Mountain Medley
Cripple Creek - cant sit still when listening to this!
Salty Dog
Knoxville Girl - love this horrible tale lol
LOL thanks for the trip down memory lane. I enjoyed your lovely tribute to your dad - and his gift of music.
No revisions.
Blessings,
~Nic

AHHHH! SALTY DOG!! When I was a wee lass, my dad taught me to sing in harmony and that was one song I LOVED sing with him. And "Cripple Creek" - hands down, on fire-the best!! Now you're taking me down a long memory lane. I so appreciate your very kind words and generous review. Yours most warmly, Sue

If you like Bluegrass, here is link to hear my Dad's favourite piece: "Cripple Creek"

This is a touching ode to your father and his banjo. I love the last stanza:
And now that Dad has gone
To Heaven, now held dear
He took that Gibson banjo
Now playing, for all to hear.
This stanza is beautiful -- banjo music in heaven. Lovely, simpy, lovely.
Good luck in the contest.

Dear Poetic Friend, thank you so much for your very kind words. Dad passed on last March and I was thinking of him a lot the other day, so I wrote this. His banjo was "signature". So happy you highlighted the stanza you liked! Thank you for your most uplifting words and generous review. With my warmest regards, Sue

My condolence on your loss. Your father will be proud of your poem.
My Dad passed away nine years ago. As the holidays approach, I think about him greatly. As a result of those heavy thoughts, I wrote the poem "Only Hours Away," in which I entered in this contest. I wrote this poem two years ago. I thought it was appropriate for the contest.
Good luck in the contest. You have my blessings, dear.

Dear Poetic Friend, thank you for your lovely thoughts. Time takes out the sting, but we never, ever forget. Thank you for telling me about your poem, "Only Hours Away". Going to go read it now. From the heart, Sue

Just read your poem. Love these lines:
Reflecting on you, Dad--
your life, your death,
I realize tears
will always pursue me,
with an ebb and flow--
waves of bliss and gloom.
Made me have a good cry. I think I needed it because he's been on my mind for a few days now. Thank you for sharing your story and your loss. Yes, the tears do ebb and flow. Thankfully, we love them enough to do just that.
Thank you for sharing your lovely words.
Sue

I am sorry. I did not mean to make you cry. Our fathers live in our hearts forever.
-
No, please do not be sorry. I really needed it because he has been on my mind so strong for these past few days. In fact, that was what prompted me to write my tribute to him.
After I wrote it, that's when I started the contest, because I realized that everyone out there has lost a loved one and it would evoke some most lovely words.
I REALLY did need a good cry! Ha! And now feeling a bit better. Going to go to the cemetery this week. Always makes me feel better.
Loved reading the love you had for your Dad.
From my heart,
Sue

Hey Deb, thanks so much for your very kind words. YES, we the the best of times. My dad would have some guys come over on the weekends and they'd go down to the basement where the acoustics were great! A fiddler, rhythm guitar, mandolin, you name it. All bluegrass! And thank you for your very generous review. Most sincerely, Sue
