Beautiful! Loved the analogy of the armored knight felled by a smile. Lovely images, beautiful language. This is a winner.

Adri7enne, I am more than honored to receive your 'exceptional' review for this work. I love the English sonnet so much and have worked at being better at it. And to receive your wonderful review is SO encouraging. From my heart...Sue

Lovely sonnet and one "wrapped within a wreath". You've employed the characteristic rhyme scheme perfectly. As many already know, the English sonnet sequence reached the height of its popularity in the 1590s, when the posthumous publication of Sir Philip Sidney's "Astrophel and Stella" (1591) was widely celebrated and led other English poets to create their own sonnet collections.
All of these, including Shakespeare's, are indebted to some degree to the literary conventions established by the Canzoniere, a sonnet sequence composed by the fourteenth-century Italian poet Petrarch.
The sonnet is becoming popular again in the 21st-century, of all times! Your lyrics are passionate, intense, and emotionally vivid. All the ingredients involved so that your personal experiences are reflected in this sonnet. Good work.

Gregory, you DO know the sonnet history! I knew that it was out of fashion for so long and only recently has made a come-back. But, did not know all the rest. Thank you for that great bit of history! Yeah, imagine that...in the 21st century-ha! Thank you for your wonderful review and compliments. With regards, Sue

An unexpected smile can change a person's day for better or worse.I loved the flowers presented and one would love to receive such flowers particularly if love is involved.
I loved the way how the words built up allowing the reader to absorb each and every word. A harden heart can change direction and feels love within.
I loved your words and your presentation. Somehow loving someone can start all over again.
I loved everyword written here.
Honeytree.

Absolutely beautiful. It takes a special love to tear down defenses build from hurts over a lifetime. This poem portrays this in a particularly tender way. Very lovely read. :)

A well written sonnet.. I love the perfect rhymes and rhythm. That first line is remarkable. I just like the imagery of joy being in exile and being restored by an unexpected smile. Great work.

This works so well - the bard himself would laugh aloud! Particularly like the lines
'To ardor's cunning, wrapped within a wreath
In shatters once, I fashioned my own shield'
So true for all those things to which we say 'never again'!
And the rhyming couplet is a strong final flourish.

My hardened tempered heart has taken flight
Now melted by your beckoning delight
That is inspired Sue, I love those last to lines.
Sorry that it's taken me a while to read and review but after spending almost four days off site, it's taken me two whole days to catch up and that is just crazy, I haven't had time to write ANYTHING myself. I had 41 messages waiting for me 41. I'm caught up now just one more from a crazy lady I know who knows how to write I think she goes by the cool as name of Sixteezkid, I'll have to read that before I can get back to the erotic magic that is ME!Ha ha

Shared words are a wonderful opportunity to communicate. Especially when there is no hidden agenda - Visceral emoting. This is why I've fallen in love with poetry.
To have it heard and felt is a wonderful thing. By reading and writing.
I have been touched by many and to know that my words touch others is one of the greatest satisfactions I've had in life. As this is all so new to me, I'm finding it amazing. We all come from many walks of life with multitudes of varying experiences, yet with heart-felt, honest words, we find our common denominator.
Thank you for letting me know that my words have communicated with you.
From my heart,
Sue

Ah the struggle for the heart, to keep it for one's self or give it away? Often we do give it away, often we have to take it back, but the hope is that one day we'll run into someone that wants to keep it and cherish it...and us along with it. :) Great job!
