Thanks, Dossie. Great job! Verrry informative, and I lovvvve that you took time to put in the links. Very good research except for ONE glaring ommission. Please hurry and change this before voting begins. Amazon's Createspace is FREE. I have three books with them and never paid a cent. You do not have to buy any of their special services... all are options.
My createspace paperbacks are beautiful, and they made kindle versions of each as well... all with NO COST at all to me.
book deals with perspective publishers. << Wrong word or wrong spelling. You meant to write 'prospective' here.

Thanks so much, Phyllis. Even after all the research didn't know about Createspace being free. That's good to know. Thanks also for the editing, I appreciate it!

I hope and pray all the time that some spectular literary agent would give me the poet/writer deal of a lifetime. Too sit on the New York Times Bestsellers list with over 42-million publications with my name on it sold. Dreams can come true. It happened for Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, Jackie Collins and more.... It could happen to me.
Your story is quite insightful. So you're well researched. Good author notes too. Excellent work.

This was a great entry into the contest. What sets this one apart from the rest I've read so far is that you go into the different major publishers in detail, giving readers a brief picture of what they can expect before approaching any of the big wheels.
Very nice work, my friend.

One question:The standards for most of the companies are quite high,
Are you referring to the quality of writing they accept or the quality of the finished product, no matter how good or bad the contents are?
Thanks for this informative read which I'll bookmark.

It's the quality of the finished product for mainstream publishers. Most will state that because of time constraints, most manuscripts will receive only a cursory read. (I'll make that clearer in the Author notes, thank you.) There are particulars publishers look for, which means a perspective author must read the criteria carefully and apply them.

Thanks so much Titan for a great list of services involving publishing. It is such a vast world of unknowns out there. One day at a time.

Thanks! You're right, navigating through all the publishing information can be daunting, so taking it one day at a time is the way to go!
