This is all too common a story in a society where many live alone. It is sad to think of many dying alone too! The writer builds up the story so the reader suspects murder, only to reveal an anticlimax, even more tragic!

This is a great short story that bring to light the problem of single elderly people living alone. Right now, my husband and I have each other and a daughter but one day all that could change. You bring that home to me.

Very nicely written.
Was me, I would have entered my neighbor's house to check on him, risking the consequences. But then, you wouldn't have a story. A twist at the end, leaving the reader something to gnaw on would be good.
Best wishes.

You have touched on a very important subject. Like you, I am at the age where something like this could happen. Thankfully my wife is still with me, but one of us will be alone in the not too distant future.

You are right. It is and will continue to be an increasing problem with an ageing population.
We all need to be aware of each other and look out for one another. The app sounds like a good idea for those who live alone. Well written. A good one to share.

Thanks for the tip about snugsafe.com. Yeah, I have a number of friends who are elderly and live alone. I'm glad most of them seem to have a lot of friends in their neighborhood. One of my former landladies didn't email me for several months, and I finally emailed her to ask if she was okay. She was surprised I asked! She'd been busy gardening all summer! LOL! Hope you have a safe and cozy holiday season.

This is an important issue, thanks for sharing. More and more people live alone these days. We recently had a case in England where a body was found after laying dead in a flat for 3 years. In beggars belief that someone didn't notice or care.

Hi Terry, this story is such a wonderful service to others who may live in a scenario much like this. Some may not think much about the guy living in the apartment next to them or even know that they have no family, or maybe just too busy with their own life to care. Whatever the case may be, this is great food for thought. And what is the ideal age that a person should need such an app as the one you talk about? Ideally, we should all think of others and be mindful that things can happen at any age. I know Medicare checks through your doctor pushes for people to have an emergency plan. I do know that some people, the older they get, the more stubborn and don't want to be checked on. So kudos to you Terry for thinking ahead and being on the ball. I love that you care enough about others to write this story and also give the info about Snugsafe. I am thankful you have this and that you are recommending it. Who knows how many lives it has saved? As a good friend, I'm extremely thankful that you have this. Is there a certain age you have to be to use it? So anyway, it makes me want to start passing the info around to others that could benefit from it. Definitely food for thought. So thank you for writing this. It truly was Terry kind of you! : )

Debi, thank you for the six stars. I want you to know this is the last story I will be posting for a while.

I am taking a leave of absence or a break or sabbatical or something like that.

I will evaluate what projects I will do in the coming months. Thank you for all your support. Terry.

Well done and thank you for the heads up. Why? Because I am seventy-five, and when I pass my wife will be alone so it's wise to share these thoughts along.

The dialogue is natural, the scenes and behaviors feel authentic, and all in all this is a very successful story. And, it holds a story within the story with the message that too many elderly are not being looked in on with enough regularity. Thanks for sharing this with us.
