the read smear. the red smear? The best gals working in the nursing homes never last, the very thing that makes them good makes them burn out. Contest entry as romance story...different flavor of romance, but I think it's right on for the prompt. Excellent writing, Jay.

Ah, Red. So happy you enjoyed this. And for the eagle-eye! I don't know if it will be accepted by most readers as a romance. To me it was. We'll see. Thanks for the correction. It made.

Christ, I love your writing. I forget that I'm reading a short story, and then it ends and it makes me sad that there isn't anymore to read. I don't have any negatives to share. It's bloody brilliant, from beginning to end. I especially love that it's an entry for the Romance Story Contest...because there are different kinds of romance, aren't there?

You sure know how to make a guy wake up with a smile on his face and no need for a cigarette. Thank you so much for your six stars, but more than that, for leaving me a feeling that writing the story was worthwhile after all. Bless you!

Many thanks, Jax. Hey, I'm glad you recognized it as a romance. I was afraid the picketers would be coming out on this one.

    =All kinds of romance. (*<*)
=What was, can never be totally gone, lives on forever in some folks. Nice job.
=The fact of their situation, makes it like the movie, 'Notebook', with James Garner and Gina Rowland.
=Many peeps should be able to identify with it on some level, I should think.

Very interesting and must have been hard to write, but you did it well. Totally fresh perspective on love. I'd say this one has a very good chance of earning a prize. Hope I'm right. :)

Hope you are right, too, Phyllis. Very hard to write from the POV of a person in the throes of dementia. I think it requires too slow a read for most folks, though. Thanks for your encouragement.

getting old and not remembering is everyone's fear and is on our minds as we get older and the more things we forget we think will it get worse or is it just a part of getting old.

Well at least two of us are obsessed with it, BJ. I keep thinking as long as I keep writing I'm okay, then I get a POV character who has dementia. LOL.

well we just have to adjust to situations like that all you can do is spend time going over the old days in hopes you strike a memory or two

Holey, Moley. So deep, gripping and hypnotic. It was intense, and I could never talk about flow with this piece. I found myself reading ever so slowly, pulling the words together for fear I'd miss something.

I swear, this is a perfect example of an author being consumed by a character. It was you in the bed, thinking, communicating at a level that comes across as bloody brilliant. Definitely not an easy read, but a most gratifying one.

Ah, Lassie, ya done me proud! Thanks, Ingrid, so SO very much. It means more coming from you--especially saying it was worth reading it slowly. Believe me, it was written slowly. I am coveting your six, Ingrid.

A very well told story. It held my interest from start to finish. The mask reminds me of the Lionel Richie bust from his video, "Hello."

Thank you for reading, Thomas. It was rather long, but it seems I can't write anything short.
