This is a poem about redemption. Jesus became human, suffered, died, rose from the dead to give redemption to mankind. The message of the poem is very clear and the form is quatrains which help organize the narrative.

'''t write them up in lights.''
Sums it all up. A nice presentation for the time of year, Roy, though your faith is visible all year round.
''a gentle word will turn away
that rage before its peak.''
This is so true and we would do well to take heed.
Have a great Easter. Good luck in the competition.

Interesting take on the sacrifice of the Lord. Your writing didn't sound at all like you. I did find it a bit choppy in parts. IE. yet for our price was set? Maybe it's me, I just didn't think it flowed as smoothly as most of your poems (with respect.)

As usual, very nice rhymes..but question asks by whose standard are we writing and isn't there a double standard when men choose what words to place in lights? And how does the choice of subject indicate a need? There are poems and stories about murder and dark deeds...are these needs? As artists are we not free to choose? My thoughts on darkness arise when something goes beyond the standards society finds acceptable. So..what are you saying here? Who gets to choose?

What a gentle and beautiful reminder of God's gift to mankind. I like that it was void of guilt. Acceptance and gratitude were in each line. Lovely poem. Gretchen

A heartfelt reflective poem, perfect for Easter, which also has an uplifting feeling and a moral at the end!
'So when you think of love's great cost
and think, deserve your rights;
they're only based on self's great needs...
don't write them up in lights.'
I couldn't agree more !
I'm sure you will do very well in the contest.
Thank you for a few minutes of inward contemplation.

A nice poem about God, love and sacrifice. I particularly love the line that love walks that extra mile love only gives. That is so very true and in this time of terror I wish more people would remember that. I enjoyed reading this one, thank you.
