Wow, i don't know why you decided to write this but I am glad you did. Lately, I have been inspired to continue with my writing and this piece helping to strengthen my resolve a little bit more. More advise would be appreciated. Thanks for reviewing my writing as well.

Thanks, bluedragon776! I appreciate your thoughtful response to this effort. I tried self-publishing and didn't find it difficult. If you plan to do it yourself, go ahead and take the plunge and try Createspace. There's no cost for self-publishing as long as you follow the directions. Good luck!

An informative essay, but it shows the marks of a rushed work.
I've listed some observations that you may like to consider:
lofty ideal was realized only for a select few until a few decades ago.
(I suggest you try to avoid the close repetition of the word "few".)
Prior to the [1990s], most all writers needed literary agents to negotiate book deals with prospective publishers.
(Apostrophe deleted.)
The mainstream, twentieth century publishers that are still solvent still require authors to have literary agents and will usually not accept unsolicited manuscripts.
(I suggest moving the comma and avoiding the close repetition of "still". For example:
The mainstream twentieth century publishers that remain solvent, still require authors to have literary agents and will usually not accept unsolicited manuscripts.)
There is a plethora of avenues for authors to publish their books outside of mainstream production and [it] can be done quite simply on the Internet.
Publishers, such as [AuthorHouse] and Tate offer a plethora of low-cost services.
(You are overusing the word "plethora".)
[TheBookPatch] is self-publishing made easy.
Many of the publishers that offer self-publishing offer a plethora of additional services
("plethora" again.)
I trust I've been helpful.

You have explained the difference between POD publishing and self-publishing succinctly and have also shared the difficulty of publishing with a large publishing company. Thank you for sharing. T2

I thank you so much for your time, Titan and have bookmarked this. Many have stars in their eyes over their writing and i am truly a novice without any soaring beliefs of being recognized. It is a nice dream though ;)

I found your essay on self publishing well written and informative. I like the fact that you included the website links within the document.
Amazon .com has <= I noticed a space between Amazon and .com. Is that because the software automatically turns that into a web link?
Cheers, and good luck with the contest!
