"He spoke to those with spirit, poor
And said that heaven's theirs
With comfort to those who had mourned
For He had heard their prayers" Nicely done Sue.

Beautiful, just wonderful. I loved each and every word. As many times as this particular Scripture is written about, preached, etc., I never get tired of reading.

Yes, it is the "sermon of sermons". I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem. Thank you for your very generous review. With regards, Sue

The Sermon on the Mount was one that helped to establish the early Christian Church. Christ was telling the crowd how and what they must do to gain eternal life. The stepping stone to the Christian faith really had what one must do, to gain an entrance to heaven when one dies, on earth.
"Love thy nighbour encompasses all the commandments."
We had better take heed here and stop all wars everywhere.
Great writing.
Honeytree.

P.S. How is the whole of Victoria doing? Shocking to all of Australia. The loss of so many lives to arson is more than tragic.
Comment from Joan E.
This is a terrific entry for this contest calling for a faith-based theme. I really admired the way you wove in the egalitarianism of delivering a sermon to those "so low in rank" and, of course, your strong rhyme.

Joan, I've never written anything on the spiritual side of things. Saw the contest and The Beatitudes just popped into my head. Your review has lifted me up! Thanks so much for that and your lovely compliments on the work. With warm regards, Sue
