Hey Kid,
Nice poem! The meter was terrific as was the rhymes. And I like that love melted your hardened shield! Love is the most powerful force there is.
Only one little nit I have with it:
"A quicken of my heart at your beguile"
"Beguile" is a verb & here you're using it as a noun.
Anyway, good luck with it!
smiles,
deb

Deb, you nearly gave me a heart attack! I though, "Oh no! How do I save it?" But, turns out it was an easy fix. I changed it to "as you beguile". Whew! Thanks for the save! I thought it could be used as a noun or verb. Thank you for a very close read and for your great review. So appreciated, Sue :-))

I thought your sonnet was beautifully written and flowed well within the strict discipline needed to write this style of poetry. Good luck in the contest.

Wonderfully written my friend -- if only love could be found so easily. For some, it is, and for others its not. Love your words and thoughts. Deserving of "all time best."

Hi Paradox, I had love at first sight once in my life. And I ended up marrying him. Truly, an amazing thing. Thanks so much for your very generous review and compliments. Always, Sue

Emotionally appealing to the masses! Great job once again from a seasoned poet. Love the word choice "...has slashed through my defenses with a hush..." Excellent!

You'd be surprised how many will not bother to read a sonnet. It is making a great comeback, though. And I sure do love them. Thanks for highlighting the part that you liked. And thank you for your lovely and kind review. With regards, Sue

Perfection, Sue. The flow, the meter, the romantic message were fantastic. 'The quickening of the heart giving rise to hope. A promise, an oatth.' The past can be forgotten, if love is fortunate to come more than once. Excellent presentation and sonnet with no suggestions for improved. A wonderful, heartfelt entry. Joyce

Joyce, I must say, I did "work" on this one. It's the first time I departed from the more contemporary use of language. Was quite a stretch for me. So, your compliments most certainly go straight to my heart. So glad you enjoyed this sonnet. With warmest regards, Sue

I have no idea how everyone keeps track of all the different forms of poetry! It makes my head spin LOL. This is a beautiful poem, and well-written too.
My memories of past, are all ignored
As I return your smile, I'm pink with blush.
(My favorite two lines :-)
Thanks for sharing! Love, Chris

Chris, believe me, it's been a LOT of work to do just that: keeping up with all the different forms! But, I've loved learning them. And the sonnet, is my favorite. Never in a million years did I ever think I would say that. Thanks so much for highlighting those lines you liked! Means so much. And thank you for your most generous review and kind compliments. With warmest regards, Sue

Ah, Sixteezkid, this is absolutely, beautifully romantic! Just warms my heart so:). Your heart was in exile before his smile - how romantic is that! I like the blushing pink at his smile, and think the ending couplet is superb! Sure is worth a six, but I have none. All the best in the contest,
heather

You expressed the awakening of your joy so eloquently especially within the confines of a sonnet's guidelines. Well done and good luck.

How lovely and sweetly romantic. Those of us who have suffered at the hand of failed love invariably swear to never love again. And then a smile from the right person sets the lovelight shining again. Excellent sonnet that flows smoothly from verse to verse, ending on a very upbeat note. Best of luck in the contest with this shy look at new romance. Blessings to you, Linda
