Good morning Terry,
I had to laugh at this line...
I quit drinking last night, about seven-thirty. No Baptist saw me.
Yes, I do know the Baptist had so many strict rules... Lucky for me I grew up in Hollywood, California...where no rules applied...
I am now 75, and feel free of any rules... so having wine (red wine) is on the agenda...
I just listened to you singing.... Hysterical....

I think most writers are ponderers, I don't hold to opinions, there are way too many variables. Too many people are opinionated, I'm so glad they haven't served on a jury where I was tried. (Not that I have), but I'm sure you're right about imagination, beautifully written Terry, blessings Roy

I enjoyed reading about your experiences and thoughts about Christmas and growing up and growing older... And of course your armchair. All filled with a mix of delightful irony and humour, and well expressed. Read that Christmas story and enjoy it. And save money by just buying one bottle at a time of vodka ... Just in case. 'Cos we don't know what our expiry date is. To be honest I fear growing too old more than I fear dying. Better to go when one will still be missed just a little, than to have everyone wishing one would hurry up and go!

I love the sense of humour that's laced through this like raspberry ripple through an icecream. This comment certainly resonates with me: Old coots don't make New Year's resolutions. Waking up tomorrow is resolute enough.

All things are possible? Try running (or walking fast) with bad knees. Impossible!
I never did understand why the Baptists didn't want kids to dance. With all the fun dances when you're a teen, it's just part of growing up. 'Course I grew up an Episcopalian and their thing was, even if you were on altar guild, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, you couldn't marry someone who'd been married before in the Episcopal church, although I know for a fact that several people did, including the minister's daughter. That's when they lost me.
I agree with you that it's nice to listen to pretty Christmas music, and read a good book. Or write a Christmas story :)
Merry Christmas to you, Terry.

Katharine, here's the deal about imagination. In your mind, you can run and walk fast, and the pain of age can go away. And even though loved ones are no longer here...in my mind I can still spend some time with them, feel the love, and cherish the memory. Thank you for reading. Terry.

I see you're sharing your Christmas greeting with all the Fanstorians now. Thanks for sharing your reflections, Terry. As to what your brother said, I wonder if we showed our expiration dates, people would treat us nicer? I'm glad you remember that you were baptized. My brother was about that age and so was I. But my brother can't remember. You remember and that's good!
