This essay, Letter 7, reminds the readers that there was once an expectation, or limitation, on women and what they could attempt. Now adays, women can be anything -- even a man.

Thank you for the kind support. I am not so much in favor to all these sex changes. I tend to believe God didn't make mistakes.

An interesting and important topic. Women certainly have the range of career options now, and that's a big change from when I was growing up. I take my cats to female vets, and they do a great job. When I lived in Texas, I took my dog and cat to a male vet. Both the dog and cat acted up for him, and when we moved to Indiana, they behaved much better with the female vets. So true, your granddaughters will have their choice of career options, if males wanting to be females don't supplant them. In your second paragraph, I think your choice should be neither was going to college. These letters are really insightful. judi

Thank you for the support. I made the correction.

You're very welcome. I like the female vets at the veterinary hospital. I think they're reassuring to the animals. judi

At my pet's clinic, a man owns it and is the head veterinarian. He has four female veterinarians working for him. I've actually only seen him twice. My pets normally see the females and they do a great job.

The woman who founded the animal hospital had charge of one place, and her husband had his establishment at another location. Her daughter now works for her. I've always been pleased with their work. judi

Hi Barbara.
I can attest to similar situations growing up, even as a male.
First, my older sister. Though I do not recall what her aspirations were, she ended up as a secretary (I'm thinking through high school classes).
Me, through high school, I did not really have a dream profession. I did want to attend the U.S, Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. My parents were adamantly opposed saying "we were not military people".
After a few years of floundering around in college, I ended up studying accounting (pencil pushing geek).
This will be a good letter for your granddaughters to read, though I'm sure you are whispering it to them when the chance occurs.
Nicely done.

Their mom is a biology professor at a university. Sciences are traditionally a male occupation. Between the two of us, I hope we have this covered. Thank you for the support.

I'm so sorry you didn't get to follow your dream. My mother had a similar situation. Back in the early forties, she wanted to be a nurse, but she had to travel far away and live in a dorm. Her father wouldn't hear of that either. All her life, she was happiest when she had someone to care for.

Dad was only doing what he thought was best for his daughter. Thank you for understanding.

Yes, he was.
