A well constructed free verse poem that offers a clear and powerful message.

The message this piece conveys is articulated well and is thought provoking.

Nicely composed and presented.

A fitting tribute to veterans.

You are correct in saying, it is not just a hat! It is not just a hat, but represents comradery in laying down one's life for our country. I was in the Navy myself, although I never saw war. However, I was willing to lay down my life for my country. My husband is a Navy vet as well. He was involved in a major conflict. He wears his hat with pride in honor of those who have served and fallen. We come from a family of Veterans, who did see war. My grandfather was stabbed in the leg by a bayonet. I could go on and on. We know many who have served and wear their hats in recognition of all those who are serving and have served our nation. Great work!

I really like your dedication of your poem to all who were eligible to wear the hat, whether or not they made it home. How wrong of anyone else to wear it and devalue what it stands for. Thank you for your very meaningful and well written poem. Best wishes for your entry.

Thank you, Earl, I salute you, my brother. I wear my POW*MIA hat proudly to remember those that were in cages and those that went missing. As a young man, I was proud to serve my country. As an older man, I think war sucks, for many men and women give up their dreams on the battlefield. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Mr. Earl. I agree 1,000% -- it's definitely not just a hat. I assume this is based on a true event. I'm surprised someone would wear such a thing and be so flippant about its significance. One of my dad's friends recently passed away at the age of 93. A guy I've known all my life. He had a hat like that he wore a lot because he served in the Koran war. I loved to hear the stores he had to tell about his life on his farm and his time in the military. I'm feeling kind of nostalgic now... you jiggled loose some fond memories with this write. Thank you.

Have a great week.

Yes it is based on a true event. I work for a newspaper part-time and I interviewed two WWII vets for Memorial Day. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my poem. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem and it brought up some good memories.

Wow, it amazes how little some understand about the true sacrifices and effort a soldier makes for his country. Patriotism comes from with in and stands for more than one person... it stands for a country, a right for freedom, ....it's not just a hat. Smiles, Carol

Earl, I just really get upset with a person so callous to our veteran's sacrifice as this person was with you. The poem is a wonderful reminder of the oath that our military has made, the service they have given in foreign lands and many times they have suffered loss of limb, mental anguish, frightening scenes that they can't forget.

Thank you for such a great poem that reminds us of our veteran's great sacrifice!

This is an excellent free verse poem. Some things like the American Flag, a Veteran's hat, a service awards and a few other things are more than they appear to be. They stand for much more. If you served in the military, Thank You. You are one of many who are proud to have warn the uniform. My husband was one, and he was also proud to have served. You belong to an elite group.

Great Poem! The author's words are strong, honorable, descriptive and
creative. I pondered on the theme of these words. The author conveyed the value and respect he had for all veterans. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is great! Hope you are doing well...
