I'm so glad your hubby came up with this idea. I'd be lost if I didn't have my Sunday Eric story to read. Please thank him for me. Your chapter is very well-written, interesting of course. A promising beginning to a new adventure. I look forward to reading more.

Hi Sandra! I'm so excited to go to Atlantis! One of my favorite mythological places!... or is it? ;) I can't wait to see how Eric's adventure ends up, and what he finds there! Yahoo! Atlantis! :)

Is it, indeed? Hmm, you'll soon find out. Atlantis has always been a topic that has fascinated me, so now with Eric and Herbie's help, we'll get to the truth of the matter. I'm delighted you'll be coming along, too. Thank you, Susan! :)) Sandra xxx

I'm with you all the way. These are great fun. Iwould like to ask your opinion on the subject of adverbs. There seems to be a pogrom against the at the moment and it is not only on FS.
Apparently not all of them are naughty, Stephen King (the horror man) seems to be leading the fight against them saying that there is usually a stronger verb around that doesn't need the adverb For example:
'Eric remarked flatly,' What exactly do you mean by 'flatly' and is it a necessary word?
'Herbie swiftly dived out of the way.' A dive is a swift movement anyway so it is incapable of of being qualified.
'Eric said, raising an eyebrow as he tilted his head and grinned,' Now this is how to do it rather than 'Eric said questioningly'. So well done here.
Stephen King waxes most vitriolic when adverbs are used to describe speech. I am told some publishing houses won't let an adverb darken their doors. What is your experience.
BTW My chapter 1 will be posted later today. Watch out for the adverbs. Lol.

I've read both sides of that argument, I'll try and find the 'for' side. I must say I hadn't realised I'd used that many and will go and do an edit. The word 'flatly' was the only way I could think to say his voice had no emotion, he was deflated, lost his usual exuberance. I'll take another look at that, too. I think you'll find many authors will keep some adverbs in, especially in children's books as they tend to think that way. I'm pretty sure I didn't put many in my This Time-That Time series. But then again...
I'm glad you pointed this out, because it is important that I get it correct from the start. I'll most certainly watch out for yours, and I bet you haven't a single one!!! LOL. Thanks, Jim, I'll go do some sorting out now. :)) Sandra xxxx

Actually (adverb) I am sure I have but I have tried to get rid of the ones around speech. As for 'flatly' you could have said 'without any enthusiasm' but I take your point about their use in children's literature as one has to keep the words simple and with five syllables it is probably (adverb) too long.
-
LOL, that reads so funny, Jim. Anyway, after looking at it again, I've removed 'flatly' altogether, and also changed, dive, to read: swiftly moved out of the way. Those were good points and I'm thankful you mentioned them. Now you've brought my attention to them, I'll be watching what I put in future. I need words that will excite a child's imagination, but they need to understand them. I have some lovely adverbs for grown-up, books. :))

Hello Sandra, 'Can a whole country sink?' What a question - you, with your imagine must know, of course, it can. Seriously, it is thought to exist somewhere in the deep. With the rain we are having, I think it's just a matter before UK sinks LOL! Seriously, without you, Eric and Herbie would not be going on this new adventure - an interesting one. You are tireless and will come up with some great adventure for them. If I do not always review your stories it is that essentially I came to FS for the poetry. Even then I am pushed for time. I am painting and have some commissions which tire me - I don't really enjoy being committed, but there you are..... I remember in the early days when you were doing the ABC thing for Eric and were trying to drum up animal names for each letter - remember? You've come a long way. Good Luck - enjoy - love and kisses Dorothy!

Goodness me, you are going back a long way, Dorothy. I had that book out a few weeks ago and was reading through it. I think it now needs a good edit!! LOL. I know how busy you are, and understand perfectly your preference for poetry. I'm going to write some poems, too. I've a project I want to continue. More for children. Lol. I think I have a child's brain, it never quite grew up.
Thank you for reading this first part. I've obviously been in touch with the ancient Atlanteans, and they've kindly allowed me to have access to some of their highly guarded secrets. Of course, now I know the truth about what happened to their country, it all makes perfect sense why they had to disappear! :)) LOL!! No, I'm not telling yet! Thank you again, my friend. Big hugs and loads of love. Sandra xxx

Sandra, re: ' I think I have a child's brain, it never quite grew up.' No Sandra, I think what you meant to say is ' You are in tune, and understand the brain of a child'. Dxx

Sandra, I love that you write in honor of your grandson and include him in your adventures. Sounds like a great idea to try to find the lost city of Atlantis.

Thank you so much for reading the first chapter in this new story. I'm glad you liked the start. I hope you like the storyline that I've come up with, it's not like any of the others you might have read about. Thanks again, Aaqib. :)) Sandra xxx

You are most welcome! I hope so too :-)
Comment from Marjon van Bruggen
Oh, this is really fantastic! You leave me no choice, I pushed the six-star option already.
I am rather new here and did not read the preceding stories about the adventures of your grandson Eric but I plan to look for all of them; I have to know how he came to rescue his friend Herbie and got involved in all the other adventures. You are a born writer of fascinating children's books and I am so very happy to have found this chapter. Congratulations!

Aw thank you so very much, Marjon, (lovely name) The first book is "Eric and the Aliens" Then "Eric and the Indians" the third book is, "Eric and the Pharaohs"
They started when my grandson was looking through my books and asked if I would write one about him. He is dyslexic and goes to a special needs school. I was just delighted that he asked, and of course I said I would. I'm so pleased you liked the beginning chapter of this book. That is most encouraging. Welcome to Fanstory, I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.
Thank you for the lovely six stars!! Big hugs, Sandra xxx
