This is a beautiful sonnet, Tony! The fawn drinking in the early morning reminds me of a childhood song. I guess the misty dawn made the river look like Styx? The bird and plop of the water rat and then the lively play of youth during the day take us through time and the couplet at the end echoes the river, a metaphor of life.
