Ah, you leave us with a cliffhanger. I am a bit surprised the guards didn't jump at the chance to be free, but then fear is powerful and they are conditioned. Exciting stuff.

Thanks, Lance. If you look at everything that happened in real time, there wouldn't have been time for Gorzi and Hyl to get out, especially with Gorzi's wound. And Hyl's a basket case. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do with them yet. I'm just thrilled you enjoyed it.

Did you say the post was long? Nah. I only dosed off once. (haha--just kidding.)
There was so much going on with the guards, Hyl, Ruether learning of and reacting to Axtilla's death with blame and blows to Pondra that I couldn't stop reading.
Now, I can take a breath and wonder did the guard shoot the arrow.
I hope you don't end this novel with the words 'Only Kyre knows how the play ...'

Thanks, Ellen, as usual, for your encouraging review. NO, it would be literary suicide to end it that way.

Good. I hate stories and especially novels that end like that.

Wow, now that's one nasty cliff-hanger, Jay. You had me breathless throughout the whole chapter.
We learn Rhuether secretly hates his brother because of a slight from their childhood. He is poised to end his life for a second time. Wow, only Kyre (and a certain author we all know) know for certain how the play will end.
I assume you will be posting the next chapter tomorrow, right???
I'll hand it to Pondria/Doctrex, he's a tough guy!
Great job, and I really can't wait to see what happens!!

Don't be so sure the author knows PRECISELY how it will end. I keep moving in one direction and the characters pull me in another. Definitely won't be tomorrow. More likely a week from Saturday. I just love to get reviews from you, Rhonda. You keep me on my toes and in such an encouraging way.

I love your work!! But I completely understand characters gaining lives of their own...that's what makes them believable!

A paragraph can be only one word long. This is very well written with a suspenseful read. There is very good imagery and descriptive scheme.

Thanks, Charlie. Glad you enjoyed it.

Last chapter I asked should it end with a quote. Should this one begin with a quote? Not surprising, Glnot's reaction to Axtilla's demise. The moment of truth is at hand, I suspect. Excellent prose, Jay.

THank you, Red. I don't think I understand about the beginning or ending quote. So happy you enjoyed it, though.

I meant to ask about a quotation mark, Jay. But then I had to ask what the four phalanges in the air meant...
-
Where would four phalluses be but in the air?
