Anyone who has tried to write a Sestina (with or without the benefit of Gin) knows how tough they are. Good for you to attack one in such a humourous way.
Loved the tone on this sestina - the timing and thought-stream impeccable.
Rose.

What a lovely review, Rose. One day I may try another one. Perhaps in response to Poetry Mechanics #5...

    A sestina? Oh, no...
I love 'em - but even I'm not that cruel.

I have no idea, Tony, whether or not you've succeeded in the mastery of this complex format, but you have entertained me riotously for several minutes; I damn near peed myself. Thank you. Kenny

I think mastery might take a mightier mind than mine, Kenny. Six stars for humor is honorable reward from the kelper.

    Fleas? Advantage plus.

My goodness! What a complication! I so much enjoyed your poem. I can feel the poets frustration, and I wanted to assist in his scratching to stop the agony. So well done, my friend.

Ah, when I itchez, I scratchez, GeorgieBoy - but rarely when I scratchez do I come up with six stars. What a true delight! Almost like winning the lottery!

That does not compute, that does not compute! Static , static! My poems go where they want to go and just drag me along for the fun of it. They make sure I rhyme so they can lead me astray, therefore I have no idea how to judge poems that do not rhyme. Especially the Sestina! LOL Well done (I think) Big Six for effort! Hugs. Nancy

I do enjoy your reviews, Nancy! I must say that, when I started this one, I did feel a bit as if I was working in binary code!

I haven't a clue whether you've followed the sestina rules in your notes, Tony, as I'd find rocket science easier to follow. :-)

I assume this is a piss-take of the form, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I read it as very clever and funny.

Cheers, Ray

Yes, poetry has lots of bugs to be worked out so much of the time! It's like trying to straighten tangled barbed wire...not much fun. I luv how you've eloquently described the difficulty/ies here!

I am afraid that is far too complex for my uncomplicated mind, I will leave it to the experts. You seem to have mastered it and confused the reader in the process!! That is not meant as a moan, just in jest. Fun, whimsical read about a pen, a flea and a poet! Faye

Thanks, Nosha. I did try to take this seriously to start with but eventually took refuge in a bit of silliness!

Holy technical data over-load, Tony! I was almost forced to take a "Siesta" from trying to figure out the aspects of a "Sestina"! I awoke rather quickly, however, as I began reading and feeling the most unusual compunction to begin to scratch myself. No, not there! It was more my head, and back, than anything else that began to itch. Besides...my daughter's here in the room with me, and even if I had to...well, you know... scratch there, I fear i would have to discreetly sneak off to the lavatory to do so.

I'll bet that was your intent for this poem all along, to allow those fleas of fear fortuitously forsake our privacy and attack our pot brains.

If so, it worked, and quite brilliantly at that!

Good stuff, Tony, and an interesting format.

Thanks for your entertaining review, Dean. I confess to descending into the banal because I hadn't the patience to construct a serious attempt at this convoluted form. The French should stick to wine-making.

Hah-ha, perhaps they should indeed, Tony.

    I thought it was brilliant in its hilarity. I rather enjoyed it, myself, save for the constant scratching...LOL. ;}

I read through the author's notes three times and the poem twice. All I can say is your poem is well written without any errors. (spags) I'm befuddled.

This is hilarious Tony - lol. I've written one sestina in my life for a class. It is very difficult indeed to do but you did it and had fun with it:)

Many thanks, Teresa. I relapsed into a comic send-up as I hadn't the patience to write a serious one. It's a bit of a brain-twister!
