Music, art, and books- the greatest gifts man has given to one another. You have captured this so well in your poem, Sue. I remember the movie Farenheit 451. It gave me chills, but then I read 10 or 15 books a month. Great depth in feeling what it might be like without these wonders and your flow and rhyme, as always, was perfect. Wonderful job. Joyce

Joyce, 10 to 15 books a month?? I'm jealous!! I love reading, but the concentration level required!! That's 1 book every 2 days!! Good for you! Thank you so much for your very kind review. Always appreciated, Sue

I remember taking a poetry class in college and it was so frustrating because I never interpreted the works, "right". What a boring world it would be if we all interpreted things in the same way! I like this poem. To me, it is very profound and something to think about. The rhyming scheme/pattern is enjoyable as well.

My entire life, I extremely disliked poetry! Up until this past November when it just came upon me to write. The reason? Because of the way they taught it in school. Bored me to tears!!! I hear you loud and clear about not interpreting it "right". Same with painting...it's beautiful to just interpret it on your own. Also, can you imagine if there were classes on rock music and getting graded on "interpreting" the songs and music? A few examples of many in the world of art. Thanks so much for sharing your own feelings. And for your very kind review. With regards, Sue

Sue, your poem about expressing the arts is well written. The rhyming and rhythm are excellent. The painting that you chose complements this very philosophical poem. Where would we be without the arts? Life would be dull and meaningless if people stopped being creative. Nice work and I enjoyed this poem very much.

MJM, so glad this piece resonated with you. Yes...how dull!! Thanks for comment on the artwork, also. Selecting my accompanying artwork is one of the best things about posting for me! And thank you for your very kind review. Sue

A great painting selection. It's very dramatic and full of stories. You did a great job in putting words into the masterful strokes of paint.

This is very complex, thought provoking and beautiful all at once. You have such a knack of capturing such things in very few words. It would have taken me pages to get all of that out! No faults, nothing to criticize. I love the poem.
Great stuff (as always)
All the best.

Kat, if it weren't for the highly restricted poem forms I've practiced (haiku, rictameter, tetractys, etc.), I wouldn't be able to condense my thoughts. Those forms REALLY make you work at word selection. Thanks for your wonderful review! Warmest regards, Sue

What a gorgeous painting you've selected for this most profoundly philosophical piece - the author's notes are also intriguing, by the way. Looks like something was in the air as we both awoke contemplating the meaning and purpose of art - your rhyming quatrains are gorgeous in their cadence and their use of beautiful words and phrases. Brooke

Yes, when I read your "Poetry" piece this morning, I thought the same thing. So glad you liked it. Thanks for all your compliments. And glad you liked the artwork. Sue :-))

Thank for the notes regarding the source of your inspiration for this wonderful poem. Is she sprawled over an ancient cello in the intriguing artwork? I was delighted by your word choices, rhythm and rhymes. Your conclusion about what compels us to create is well conceived and makes a powerful stanza.

Hi Joan, glad you liked the notes. She is sprawled over a large, symbolic painter's pallet. This artist likes to incorporate the world of art into his paintings. Beautifully done. So glad you liked the last stanza. I was pleased with it, but wasn't sure how it would be received. Glad it has your thumbs up! Sue

Oh, I really enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the clarification regarding the palette.

Yes, Bradbury was off the charts with such great and unique writing. He made the whole case of the human need for free and creative thought when it was vital for the people to memorize books to pass down to the next generations. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. And for your very kind review. Sue

I like the idea behind your poem and you stating your intentions helped understanding what you were truly aiming for - thus the meaning of your poem. I just had to read this when you mentioned "Equilibrium" because it was such a great idea, along with "Farenheit 451" - what an amazing book. I thought this was a wonderfully written poem with a lot of deep meanings. I'm very drawn to words that can make you think and debate with yourself over their meanings - over our individual meanings. I'd give this a six but I don't have any left to give.

So glad you enjoyed the notes. Since the films and their subject matter are what prompted me to write this, I just wanted to share it. Keeps us all pondering, doesn't it? Thanks very much for the "almost" sixer! Ha! Means a lot. And thank you for your very meaningful review. With regards, Sue
