William,
This exceptional poem is so touching; I'm sorry for the boy who died, but at least you gave him comfort.
This is a glimpse of what each of us might go through in our final hours. At 66, I think about it often.
I'm sorry I ran out of six stars already (I did marathon reviewing yesterday), because your poem is deserving.
Best wishes, Cindy

Wow...your poem and the notes are so moving. Nowhere near do I come to understand watching one self slip away, knowing it's coming, and watching how it affects those you love.
I do know the other side -- as I watched my husband slip away... I was his wife, caretaker, and friend. When he passed, I had no idea who I was anymore... the me had been lost a long time ago.
You have done wonderful things and gave this teenager hope and understanding and peace.
Smiles and hugs, Carol

What is tragic saying that someone has to endure such a thing as this form indicates. It is very thought-provoking and I enjoyed reading it however it is leaves with a feeling of sadness. May you have a wonderful week and may God bless you. Patricia.

Comment from Jasmine Girl
What a moving and emotional poem about appreciating life when you can. It must be hard to have parents who fight all the time in front of him who was dying.
Very sad.
Well done.

Thank you, Jasmine. When he was admitted everyone, including the maintenance staff, intionally came to him and said, "Welcome home."

Love this poem! It has a beautiful flow and rhythm. I felt every emotion! Well written! Your use of descriptive language makes the poem leap off the page. I love the first line, it drew me in immediately. Depression feels like this. I could relate to the pain! Keep writing, you have a gift!

A poem born of despair. I am glad he was at least able to die away from the fighting of his insensitive parents, and that you created a place of peace for him and others. Bes

This is a heartbreaking and beautiful poem and a very good entry for the Free Verse Poetry competition. Your author notes help us understand the reason behind this poem. I like the presentation, great imagery, and poignancy. Very well done! You are a very special person to have made this your career, to bring comfort and care to those in need. Bless you!

Wow, Bill. This is powerful and shows the condition of the patient as he faces his parents' bickering while he is dying in a patient care facility. I can feel his tears running down his cheek and his inner turmoil of how to face death while facing his parents as well only hoping that one day they will finally be together as one.
