That is powerful. The picture and the poetry just meld as if born together. It is just astonishing what the proper picture can do for your poetry, Good Work.

I don't often review very short poems, but this one was out of the ordinary- one to make you think. Your metaphor for carnage was very creative, as was your use of alliteration.

This is a powerful and evocative commentary on current world events and their devastating, far-reaching consequences. I think the phrase "chill wind" is an interesting riff on the old phrase "it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good" - clearly there is no silver lining to be found in this situation.

That is the thing that breaks my heart when men go to war, to see a child confused, crying and seemingly broken, it's then, perhaps I think there is no hope. But I don't believe that, beautifully written my friend, good luck, blessings Roy

A beautiful three lines. Meaningful. Well crafted. Significant. Lots going on here. Torn dreams. Collateral carnage. Clinging onto the bear. Well done and good luck. X

These children will have lived through so much by the time they are adults. It's heart breaking to think about and I am grateful everyday for my own children's safety. But I don't take it for granted.

Short and poignant post here.
Extremely timely for this horrible time in Ukraine and Gaza.
War is a tragic reality in the world.
Defense against invaders is absolutely necessary. Response to terrorists is absolutely necessary.
Tragically, man has a tendency toward violence against those who disagree with this belief or that.
Those of us who have served in war KNOW how it changes the soul of the participants forever.
Sadly we are destined to see more as long as some profit from sending others to war.

Thank you so much, Chuck, for your kind review and thoughts, all greatly appreciated! Yes, in relation to your last line, you can't help but think about the massive money-making industry of this murder and infanticide. And the fact that lives are changed forever. Debbie

You used very strong words in order to create strong emotions for your readers in this contest entry and it worked. Yes, war is horrible and needs to stop. Great job. Thank you for sharing it with us. Good luck with the contest.

Indeed, a picture is worth a thousand words. You only used 12 words paired with a heart-piercing image, and it sears my heart. Together, the image and your words make a poignant entry of six-star quality.

Look at that sweet face - there's almost a smile there. I wonder if the fact that she was able to save her favorite stuffed animals is enough to give this child a small amount of joy and hope? Isn't that a horror? And one that I believe we all share in.

This is excellent, Debbie. I like the alliteration of chill, collateral carnage, and clings. "Ghostly chill" reminds me of a "haunted" room one walks into and sees their breath or feels cold.

It all makes me sick.

Thank you so much, Pam! You're right. There is some kind of comfort her infant self is hanging on to. Your thoughts here, as ever, are greatly appreciated. Take care Debbie
