How sad! Jasper put on his mask to face the day when all he really wanted was to see her face again. This is well-written and shows how so many of us wear masks. We all do it!
Even when we go inside our homes we wear masks to face our family members each one for different reasons but still, the idea remains we wear masks for plenty of reasons even here on FS.

Hi Jesse,
that's true. I sometimes wonder if we're ever really truly honest with ourselves, or just convince ourselves of certain things! lol Cheers. G

Being convinced we wear masks says so much about ourselves.
Wearing them doesn't do us a favor at all. We need to be honest to a fault.
Take care, my friend,
Jesse

This sounds somewhat like my life. Happiness has been evading me for a long time now. I understand Jasper and I can tell you this is a very good job relating his story to others. Well done, Garth. After the death of a loved one it is very hard to continue on with life. Well done. Nancy:)

All of us have a public life and a private life. According to my husband, a forensic scientist for the Army's CID, we all have a secret life. It's that secret life that gets us into trouble, well sometimes the private life. Your post is very telling because it puts into words the difference of the public life and the private life. Great job of writing.

There's a surreal touch to the storytelling in this one, almost dream like or nightmarish. The man who cannot leave behind his grief seems to struggle with reality here, struggling to open faucets and draw water, get into bed, make himself dinner. And he never goes out apparently without his mask. I think it symoblizes grief in a lot of ways. We put on that mask whenever we find ourselves in public, we try to hide our grief, bury it inside of ourselves, out of view of the people around us. And we struggle with keeping an even keel through grief. Our memories are clouded by it. estory
