Hindsight is twenty-twenty. Maybe she didn't say no, maybe her parents said no. LOL This is an adorable story and I really enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing it.
The next day, I walked to school by myself, (The following day)

Thank you, Barbara. I?m glad you stopped to read and the correction.
We were friends for the next few years till she moved away.

This is a delightful story of the disappointment of a young boy being stood up for the first time. The story was well introduced, with mystery built in up through the sad, then happy ending. At least, your room got cleaned. Great storytelling.

When young, optimism and uncertainty was with me in equal proportions, but although I had crushes, I was the class and school's top athlete, so I didn't mix them, I knew what I was good at, when I reached puberty, that changed somewhat, what sweet story John, well done,

Ah...puppy love...more complicated than some older folks would give it credit for. Hopefully, you didn't get the PG version of the "Friendzone" with her after she "Ghosted" you?
Interesting and many of us can relate well. Thanks for sharing!

I think most can relate to this at a young age. Those simple things can crush you when you're young. This was a good read and kept me reading. Good dialogue and grammar

This story was mysterious and had intrigue built into the tale of a boy in school who suffered his first rejection. Johnny and Joy were an item it seemed until he planned for her to come over to his house and then she didn't show up. The next day he was sullen and miserable until she asked him to play dodgeball once again. Quite a story and an excellent one at that. You really have to tell me all about what happened afterward when the next day arrived. What happened next?

This was such a sweet memory you have chosen to share! We never forget our first rejection, and this sounds like a doozy. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
