Lovely poem for the contest. A child would like to hear this poem before going to bed or down for a nap. Good descriptions with the lilac tinted skies and Sandman sprinkling fairy dust. Best wishes in the contest.

This is a gentle lullaby and you obviously have your own Grandchild in mind here as you are inspired by rocking the baby to sleep Melissa, a wonderful word choice, excellent rhymes and flow, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Awwww, This is lovely Melissa. I love it! Your meter and rhyme are well done and the picture is just beautiful. It deserves a six but I have not one to offer. I'm sorry . Best wishes in the contest. Nancy:)

Wishing I had six stars to give you exquisite poem, Melissa!
What a soothing and peaceful offering complete with excellent rhyming and a beautiful message filled with keen visual and emotive imagery.
Nothing more precious than to experience a baby fall asleep in one's arms.
We surely are blessed, Melissa.
Best Wishes!

Thank you Diane... your sentiments are mine ~ exactly. So appreciate you, my friend... we see things much the same.

We surely do, Melissa!
But darn it! Your poem and the one about Rosie deserve six stars, and I am, sadly, out of them!
Wouldn't it be fun if we could "purchase" extra "six stars?" Bucket List!

That is so true. I do feel constrained on this site, but I love it too. Mention it to Tom...

I love the whole poem, Melissa, but the first two lines of the last stanza deserve a six star rating all by themselves. This poem reminds me of one of my favorite childhood poems where Wynken, Blynken, and Nod sail off in a wooden shoe. It's sets the mood for sleep for both the child and the adult reader.
As always. So well crafted.

Aaah, Debbie, you are so sweet to bless me with such words. I love writing for children and I had just finished a FaceTime with my son and little Rosalie, so all of it was fresh and I thought of her. I was fond of that nursery rhyme too :). Thanks sweet friend.

I saw/read nothing wrong. Your rhyme was perfect, your cadence was spot on, The flow of words was manageable,
The contest is yours, Rock-on!
Very enjoyable read. Reminded me when my wife and I put ours to bed nightly.
Cheers to the young ones.

Hello John! Thank you for your lovely words. My son and new granddaughter (she's 1 yr. old) FaceTimed me this morning, so my thoughts were on her as I wrote :). So appreciate your review!!

Good thing for FaceTime. Keeps everyone close!

This is sweet and I loved the picture with a cuddly child nestled in a mother's lap. One suggestion would be to add on the last line of the fourth stanza a too instead of to.
I love this and I hope you win the contest for the children's poetry.

You sound like a very contented and loving grandma! This is a beautiful poem for the contest. As you rock to and fro, you sail through lilac tinted skies. And - you have the perfect artwork to highlight this. Just lovely...
