This is a great story, oozing with affection, and well told.
You're lucky to have been touched by Dinky and lucky to have talent as a writer so that you can try to process your feelings this way.
Just a couple of very small things:
"...two males human." Should be males'
"...snuggled with Banshee and I." Should be Banshee and me.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much for sharing this very personal piece, Earl! Now, just want to get this straight --
So your wife's student gave her Dinky and then she was planning on re-gifting him to her parents?
Loved this hilarious sentence:
She prefers dogs that double as dust mops and can fit in her purse.
One spag:
snuggled with Banshee and I. (me) object of the preposition 'with'
Hope you do well in the contest!

Very well written, Earl. You instilled so much emotion in these lines. I don't know dinky, but in the picture, tells a thousand words. as you can imagine Dinky is probably in Doggie Heaven.
I can tell he was a loving sweetheart for sure. I feel bad knowing he passed. (really) Earl.
Very well written and God bless dinky wherever he is. Bob

Hi Earl. I am so glad you shared with /Anna. My dog is a Chihuahua. Hie only weighs about 4 pounds and is
named Reesey because he is chocolate colored on top of his body and cream colored on the bottom, like a Reesey Cup. LOL I am sick just thinking what I would feel like if something happens to him. Bless all of you, my friend. Hi Anna! Bob

Yes, Earl Corp, all dogs indeed do go to Heaven. Thank you for sharing this moving piece with us. Everyone who has ever loved (and sadly lost) an animal will relate to your experience with Dinky. I hope that you and Anna are able to give your hearts, and home, to another Dinky. Pets make life so worth living. Wishing you all the best.

First of all I'm glad you found writing about Dinky to be therapeutic. I know the pain of losing a beloved pet, but we do know their lifespan is shorter than ours. Thank you for sharing your life with Dinky with us.

Dear Earl, This was truly a very moving true story, I am glad that you wrote it, because as you said, it will help you process your grief to have written it. I would think of the whole situation, like a celebration; how many dogs do you know, that have had a whole story, written about them?

My heart goes out to you. Over the years, I have lost long-time furry companions, members of my family. It hurts so much, but just remember he had a good life with you and he knew he was loved right up to the end. I'll pray for Dinky.

Earl,
I am so sorry. That is definitely one of the toughest things ever. There are pros and cons to having pets in the house - and this is the negative part, for sure.
A small note:
--> Now, her parents her were away in Canada at the time, so I had a sneaking suspicion
--> edit, please
Thanks - sending hugs-
