For my grandson John
On the spectrum

Hello, anonymous,

Excellent entry for the mental illness writing prompt contest. I watched a series about young people in the spectrum looking for love. It was a very interesting show. You get to see half a dozen young men and women go on dates and in some cases, get married. It's the first time I heard the term 'in the spectrum'. You did a great job.

Gypsy, the world of Autism is one that presents many untold stories of families that find themselves in place with more questions than answers and more unknowns than that which is known - today Autism is reaching far deeper into our society with cost that will be become shocking to all. But there is always HOPE!

Excellent description of a child with autism spectrum disorder, and a beautiful poem and tribute to your grandson. Yes I agree - he has been kissed by God and set apart for special purposes!
Well done!

That is a wonderful piece. It gave me a perfect mental image of this child and the good and the bad that come with having this illness. To see that he can find his way in the world is a blessing.

Beautiful and inspiring in an elegant way. I love the passion of expression, especially at the beginning, where you placed the reader into the subject's perspective. I can feel the love and the energy of thought here quite vividly. Beautiful!

What a touching poem about your grandson. It is very insightful into the disjointed world of the Autistic. What was once a great mystery has now become a more openly studied and accepted disorder. I'm glad you've taken the time to share your thoughts about a mental illness that can be so frustrated for everyone involved.

Take care,
Rhonda

This poem you wrote just breaks my heart but also makes it smile at John's Lego success. I have a friend with an autistic son, around age 25 I think, so I get much of what you revealed about John's childhood.
The autism spectrum, I see from your notes, is extremely wide! Thank you for this heartfelt poem, so eloquently written! I would give you a six, but I am fresh out!
All the best to you and yours!
Tina

This is a beautiful poem and a lovely tribute to your beautiful grandson. I have had several students through the years who were on 'the spectrum'. They are charming and darling and sometimes in an absolute fury with no way to say why most of the time. My heart has sometimes broken as I search for some joy in their lives.

You did a great job with your tribute to your grandson, Mystery Author. I could feel the love and understanding you have for John. Your first hand knowledge plus the facts of this disorder are interwoven in an interesting story poem. I loved reading about the 'things' he could do such as building the model no instructions wanted/needed. You give readers a clear message of your beliefs along with great notes. The lines about God kissing him are great.
Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan
