This is quite lovely. My family and I are about to do a last hurrah of summer and go to our favorite lake tomorrow. I hope to find some serenity in the waters of lake nebagamon. I enjoyed your well written verse.

You did a good job with your challenge poem for the club. I enjoyed reading it. Your words are well-chosen and aptly describe one who is deep in thought of what has happened and what is in store for the next day. I like how you used 'ebb and flow.' I like your use of rhyme. I believe i would write sunsets (sun sets) in 1st verse and summers (summer's day in 2nd).
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Dear JLR, these potlatch clubs are great, are they not.
Particularly when they prompt us to write poetry. ( like the one you have just posted. )
Excellent work and a great contribution to your Club's growing library

Suzanna, yes I do enjoy them as I find that in every challenge, club members pull little gems out every week, which makes the readings very enjoyable.

This free verse, Near Summer's End, finds the lone soul wandering about the dregs of what summer has left and looks with wonder out to the coming season. What else can come this way?

This poem is sweet, soft and slow like summer. I like the feel of it as well as the flow. The picture goes very well with the poem and adds to the feel of the slower pace of Summer and the water lapping at thighs.

'as the waves slowly slink away
I saunter with the
warm water licking my thighs'
These words create such a great picture.

Enjoyed!

JLR, you've written an excellent poem; it made me yearn for spring again, and to skip late autumn and winter. Winter always means darkness and cold. I love as your narrator walks on the shore, musing about her future and what it will bring.
Excellent poem.
Best wishes,
Cindy

Hello JLR :)
I enjoyed your interpretation of the artwork.
The imagery is beautiful and you have used effective touches of alliteration throughout. I particularly like 'slowly slink' and 'deeper depths.'
I like the feeling of movement that runs through your poem, the waves, the sauntering through the ocean and also her thoughts...what does the future hold as we mo e into the next season?
Very nicely done.
Best wishes, Debra :)

Good question to ponder as summer ends. Fall is favorite time of year. We have long, intensely hot summers here in the tropics. I'm really ready for peace on the streets, to shop unmasked, and some relief from the heat. Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xo

The end of summer can make one melancholy if they begin to think of winter and being housebound without looking forward to the beautiful fall which comes next.
