" We went hiking, camping, and now I was getting a chance to earn merit badges." I think that is how my boy thought of things too!

"Whenever I was underestimated I would do my best to exceed expectations." I am just like that.

Best of luck in the True Story Contest.

Dear Earl, I think Every body is entitled to a perfect day.
You are so lucky that you actually had one ! No wonder that you wanted to post this story, just to share the joy.

Earl,

This is a really awesome achievement and I know you must be really proud of it. Especially to have done it on your first try AND when you were still so new and young to the corps. Congrats.

I happen to be a major, major carrot person, so I get it. I also am motivated by things like what that silly NCO said to you - I'd be like, 'Excuse me, you might want to step back a little. I don't want you to be choked by all the dust I'm about to create up in here.' hehehe

And I am sure that made your victory even that much sweeter. haha Stick it in FACE! hahaha

Some notes, if I may:
1.) score over 225 out of 300, on the PT test,
--> what is the PT test? You might need to explain that for us simple folks

2.) The next obstacle(s) were 25 regular stations

3.) stations(.) In(space)1983 you could not fail any stations and still earn the EIB;

4.) Actually, since I was new, they weren't expecting me (to).

5.) I called in my coordinates, and to my surprise,(space)the first round hit the target.

6.) who could have up to five pieces of information or a weapon,(space)on them

7.) "Surely (they) wouldn't put one in the other pocket," I thought.

8.) For some perspective, there were 63 EIB recipients in the whole 3rd Infantry Division that year(.)
--> but how big is an infantry division -- again, for us dummies?

9.) I always look back on this as the only day in my Army career that I was (considered) perfect.
--> since we all know you blew the pocket search, you loser. --hehehe

I really enjoyed this. I always love soldier stuff and I adore war stuff. I appreciate the men who have served more than you can know. Thanks so much. Sorry for the rating -- hurry up and edit and let me know and I'll adjust it quick. Thanks for serving and thanks for sharing. I appreciate you!! Good luck in the contest!

I've updated. You aren't made at me, are you? You know I was kidding, right??????

I'm sorry, Earl. I count you as a buddy here and I may have taken it too far. It's hard to figure out who I can cut up with around here.

I spent most of my formative years with guys and I'm afraid I have that kind of mentality... when it comes to kidding around and stuff.

If I offended you or anything PLEASE forgive me. I wanna be friends....

We're good. The ones I hate are the ones that don't reread it after they ding you.

Yeah, that's no problem. I just want to make sure you know I was only teasing you with my nonsense in the review.

I glad you used this in the true story contest because it is a good way to remember a time you were perfect, Earl. :) Now if you had used this for the biggest dream contest I would have to say it was only a dream :) for no one is perfect in the Army. This is a good entry for the True Story Contest.

Good luck in the True Story Contest, Earl. This was well written and very much enjoyed. It was indeed your day to be perfect. Just imagine what would have happened if you hadn't gone with the unit and tried for your EIB. The picture you posted was wonderful.

Well done, Earl. Thank you for your service. I am so proud of our military. My husband was in the Air-force. It was before we were married and he didn't talk about it so I don't know much about his service time. We met after he returned home. Congratulations for earning your EIB so easily. LOL Good luck in the True Story contest. Nancy:)
