This is well done. As I read I couldn't help but wonder at the truth of a person's life that is rarely if ever really told at their passing. You chose a good picture and good writing.

Hello again! I had fun with this, though there is indeed darkness amidst the light side.

I like and have enjoyed the read, the taletelling, the fast forward plot development, ends with a mystic ending; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

I'm so glad it's actually fiction Liz, serves him right, (I'm sure there are a few like this around) I couldn't help admiring your sardonic wit. You have a unique way of looking at the world at large dear girl, great literary work though, well done, blessings Roy

Well done

This story, Death By Cliché, seems to give the readers the cleaned up obituary followed by the rough copy which seemed to over-share the reality of having a dysfunctional family.

Your humor is good but on the dark side. I now feel rather depressed. I think I'd prefer the sanitized cliches that don't show us the sad things that this poor woman suffered in life.

Sorry this spoof brought you down--indeed, clichés bring much comfort! Cheers. LIZ

Clichés can be empty but the final memorials can be full of them and it's okay. 😊

A sad scenario that is true for many unfortunately. You did a great job with the 'real' scene and the 'wish it were true' scene. What a contrast. Family can hide what is really on their minds many times until they just go berserk and it's me, me, me. Your art choice pairs nicely with your tale. Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Jan--you must have bitten the very moment I tossed the bait! So glad you liked this piece. Cheers. LIZ

I love the tongue-in-cheek humour disguising the sad reality of what may well be true of many families. The 'real' story would have cost a fortune to put in the paper, so it may be a sad fact that embroidered truth costs less.
I hope Sandra is happier now she is dead. You are a true friend to her to set the record straight.

Hey, Lisa--I think I just got a bonus review on this one! I already got my 2 comps last week, and the piece is normally deleted forthwith if not promoted. Wonder how you found this! Must have slipped the axe. I've learned the hard way not to bother promoting a piece unless I'm prepared to pump at least six 5-pt levels after the initial 9.95 just to get (maybe) 5 more reviews with 82 cents per as enticement. So that's $37.65--money ain't so funny anymore. So--I take my two and scoot--then promote selected pieces when I've $$$$aved up. A couple of times I did get three--even once four--freebies. I promoted one of those "three-bies" thereafter to po$$$$$$ition 10 and only got 4 more reviews. Thanks for your interest (in my work, that is--I fear this ramble may have invoked the opposite). Cheers. LIZ

I went looking at your portfolio and cherry-picked based on subject.
The money aspect of fanstory is a bit tough; some of those ones at the first page must have paid a fortune to be there. I see you are a recent member - it will probably take a few months for other members to notice your work, become a fan, then more reviews will happen. I have been on site for 14 months and get about 6 to 14 reviews for the initial $9.95. I only add extras when i post a poem, but only 2 or 3 pumps max. I will 'fan' you, then I can see whatever you write as soon as you post it.
-
Thank you, LisaMay, for your thoughtful response to my ramble. Indeed, the people on page one are paying a fortune! It's 6 pumps to get from 52 to 82 at 5 cents per (total $28.65), then 9 pumps to get from 82 to 100 at 2 cents per (total $54.20) then then one pump per penny thereafter! I see some guys up there at the 1.14 level--sometimes with 2 poems at once! So..let's tally that up... we had 6, plus 9, plus 14 pumps..equals 29 pumps X 2.95 plus the 9.95 equals...YIKES! 95.50!
...After all that, supposing all the reviewers say the poem sucks!
-
I think with offering all that money to review their work, those rich members seem to have 'bought' the reviewer's gushy praise (however insincere). I can't remember ever seeing a low rating for a high rewarding posting, and some very clearly don't deserve the merit.

Ya think?

Tongue in cheek is making my face bulge.

Hello Elizabeth
A very funny and clever piece. I have always held that words are a terrible form of communication as people (present company excluded, of course) lie, and so there's always a 50/50 chance that what you hear or read is not true.
This is witty and you should not let the idea go: it is recyclable and would lead to a great collection: "The Devil's Obits"
I wish you well with your continued writing - thank you for posting this.
cheers

Thanks Phil! I figured I'd follow up with something light after the heavy script I posted earlier. (Open House, Closed Doors) Cheers. LIZ

LOL!! Okay, so somebody was really feeling devious this morning with the pen... but it was definitely worth some chuckles over here. Funny how those obits are always so formal and perfect sounding when we know there's a story back there some where, yeah?! :) Yvette
