Ah, as I read this, I'm wondering how you and Chuck are enduring this never-ending election week. You've been through so much with these relationships. It sounds like you give a lot in a relationship and I hope you are receiving in return to make it all worthwhile. Thanks for sharing.

I'm on the verge of asking him to leave after supper so I don't have to indulge his righteous right-wing spewing thereafter.

You must be a very tolerant person! 💕

Well, compared to Chuck, I suppose.

I feel a bit exhausted just reading about these guys...I can't imagine the exhaustion created by living with them.
I appreciated that you never had a "woe-is-me" attitude about all of this and your humor sustained the story as it likely sustains you (if this is in anyway autobiographical.)

I didn't love the number sign (#) having such a big role...I found it kind of distracting.
I'm not sure how you might otherwise distinguish the men...perhaps some physical feature like "big nose" or "jarring voice." It might be a counter-weight to the personality traits.
I feel for the main character and hope "Chuck" works out for her.
It seems the obvious closing quality to wish for if he is a good guy would be "longevity."

Excellent suggestions, all taken. I omitted all numbers and gave names to ex-husbands and put longevity as my number one must-have (in which sentence credit is given to you for the suggestion).

I also added the following to my notes:

For purposes of clarity and decorum, I refer to my ex-husbands as Doug and Michael; they're both DICKs.

I think using all these numbers to identify people and their traits make this very matter of fact, kind of logical and mechanical in its view of the world. There's a great sense here that in the end, we are all creatures with failings, one way or the other, and the perfect person is impossible to find. We have to learn to accept each other with these failings to make anything work. Compassion is the key. estory

Thanks so much for stopping by--always a pleasure to read your articulate commentary!

I removed the numbers and assigned names to my ex-husbands per suggestion of reviewer Cynthia Adams.

I'm so glad that I've been married 44 years this month. After watching the many trials of dating and relationships between people, I'd be a hermit. What a wonderfully story. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day and God bless.

This humour essay is easy said, structured, organized, reasoned, self-explanatory with relative taletelling, with good intro and conclusive conclusion on love and learn; well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

Haha, Liz. You have led an interesting life. I'm happy for you that you seem to have found your 'soulmate.' I read some of the other postings about Chuck, and all seems good. You did a good job describing the previous husbands. Wow, what a change from how they acted at first til the parting.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

You are quick Jan! Chuck is overall the best by far, though (per footnote) we are surely not soulmates! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers. LIZ

Wow lizzy Man number three? you certainly are trying out all the models in the man yard lol
My better hal and I have been together 45 years now I actually thoufght it was 43 but there was a non parole period. 36 years of that has been in a conjugal relationship.
My love of surfing and her love of shoppping have probably saved our marriage and the fact that she is legally blind and I'm 99 percent death has been the perfect combination.
As for ouir sex life well we only have hallway sex these days..when we pass each other in the hall way she says get fkd! so I say you get fkd! and we continue on to the beach and the shops separately but we do have three wonderful adult kids who continually shake their heads.
This house arrest we are currently enduring well we'll do this on our heads because she is out in the other room watching soaps while i am in the sunroom as i call it on the computer writing rhyming verse all night especially after I have fallen asleep on the lounge for 4 hours at 730 pm when called in to watch a movie together lol.
Yeah I am not sure what you call it but we are still together tolerating each other..maybe your bench mark has just become way too high and you are looking for the perfect male?..they don't exist!! lol

DIP--very amusing. Hallway quickies: his-n-hers. Considerate of you to hold off until she finishes. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the bonus star--makes up for the one I lost earlier when a reviewer closed with "six stars for you!" but gave five! Cheers. LIZ

/oh, you and your lists not panning out. Your command of English is hilarious, and kept me smiling or chuckling the whole way through. You do have the gift of gab, and the talent to get it down and in print.
