What a beautiful, amazing story! Karel's father was a kind and generous man, and it's wonderful that your mother wasn't too proud to accept that he gave you such a lovely and expensive gift. Karel's parents were probably delighted to have you as a friend for their daughter. I'm so glad they didn't let class disparities stand in the way. You have related this story with simplicity and grace. Very well done!

I think this is a lovely story for the True Story contest.
The story of a girl who can't afford nice shoes, getting a pair bought by a friend is well told.
I wish you lots of luck with the contest.
Sharon

What a wonderful dad, a man of compassion was your Mr. Redding, a rare gift indeed, we weren't terribly wealthy when I was a boy, but mum looked after us, and dad had a good job, so we were fed and clothed, and I was a good sportsman and was a school representative at sport, and always had enough money to to travel over town. Beautifully written Sally, blessings, Roy

Mr. Redding was my dream Dad. My father left us when I was four. Alcoholism had destroyed him. Thank you for the kind review and constant support in my writing, Roy. It is so appreciated.

What a wonderful man Mr. Redding was, and he handled the situation beautifully. I know how you felt about those shoes. I once saw a pair of red T-strap shoes I wanted so very much. My aunt bought them for me, and I wore them for years. It broke my heart when I finally had to discard them.

Thank you for the wonderful review. Yes, he really was a wonderful man. I didn't really have a dad to speak of. My dad was an alcoholic and it ruined him and almost destroyed our family. God and my mother's love held us together. People like Mr. Redding appeared all throughout my life. A true gift from God.

Sally,
What a moving and graceful story! Mr. Redding is a true southern gentleman. He surely gave you more than just a pair of shoes that day and if he was a thoughtful and wise man, which I think he was, because it's how you portrayed him, he knew that.
Well done -as always- your forever fan.
Beth

Still in the library. Still crying. This one tore me up. Now I have to confiscate a box of Kleenex and slide out the door before they ask if something is wrong with me. I LOVE this story and I love that those little shoes brought you such happiness and confidence. Hugs to you today and always! You bless us by sharing your past.

Hi Sally. Loved your story about the new patent leather shoes. To this day I love patent leather. Thank you for sharing. I remember in the old days, there was an actual shoe salesman in the store who measured the feet and put them on us. Then we'd walk up and down to be sure the shoes didn't pinch or hurt before buying them. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Yes, Im glad Yu our remember those days. Remember that they usually brought out the size below and above the one measured, as well. Good sales people are almost non-existent these days. I appreciate the kind review and compliments.

Thank you so much, dear Bill. I'm glad you enjoyed my true story and comtest entry. God's hand was on me early on, protecting and providing for me. My Redding was very Christlike.

I am deeply honored by the superb rating and generous six stars once again, Bill. Thank you, again.

Sending you my best today as always,
    Sally :)

The Lord puts people in our paths in some of the most interesting and, as it turns out years later, transformative moments of our lives, doesn't He? :) A beautiful offering, Lady Sal -- no sixes, but a virtual for sure! ;) Best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette

Sally,

What a nice man! And, to him, those shoes probably didn't cost an extra nickel. Isn't it funny the things that matter from one person to another? That story has lingered with you for all these years. Sometimes we never know the good turn we do. Beautiful story! Thanks for sharing and good luck!
